Swatch Sunday: Blackheart Beauty Blue Green Splatter

Hello Lovelies!

I love BlackHeart Beauty polishes, but the names are so hard to make out! They seem to abbreviate them in the weirdest ways possible, it's like trying to read those grocery store signs where they've ran out of letters and are using as few vowels as possible.
This is Blue Green Splatter, it's a glitter topper suspended in a clear base, it has black, blue, and highlighter yellow micro and hex glitters. They didn't skimp on the glitter in this mix so you don't have to fish around, but mine had settled so I had to give it a good shake. I layered it over two coats of Pure Ice Home Run.

Pure Ice Home Run

Hello Lovelies!

I don't think I've fully expressed my love of Pure Ice's creme polishes here on the blog, they're all so consistently awesome! I need to get a new bottle of French Kiss, I used to use it in sooo many designs. Pure Ice's cremes are always so awesome to use, great consistency all around, and perfect for stamping too!
This is Pure Ice Home Run, two coats with shiny topcoat. It looks mint green in the bottle, but on the nail it turned tiffany blue, which I think looks quite pretty.

Mint Haired Ladies

Hello Lovelies!

I got a couple requests to do some reverse stamping/stamping decals when I asked for suggestions in my giveaway post *hint there's only a couple days left to enter hint* . This is actually only my second attempt at decals, and I'm not sure if it turned out better than the first, what do you guys think?
I chose a more complex image to fill in this time, but my execution lacked finesse. For some reason when I popped the images off the stamper they curled in on themselves? And then I was dumb and used cheap topcoat that made my images smear....
My mint haired gal came from the St. Merry by Gogo Only plate, and the latter came from BP-L008

Polishes used:
Pure Ice Home Run
Ulta Oh!
Pure Ice Dollface
Spoiled Cotton Mouth
Drenched in Lacquer Blue Moon
e.l.f Smoky Brown
The Color Workshop Gold Rush

Frosty Mint Geometric with BP-L008

Hello Lovelies!

I just refreshed my nail shape, and I'm really loving the crisp corners of my coffins, but I keep snagging them on things :(
And I think I've gotten the swing of taking pics of my cinderella hand, no more strange claw poses here! This mani started off with two coats of Pure Ice Home Run and a thin coat of BlackHeart Beauty BLU/GRN SPLTR/STR (if you can translate that into english I'd love to see), then I stamped a subtle geometric pattern with BP-L008, and finally matted it with Pure Ice Frost Finish. I'm surprised by how much I like this glitter topper, usually I'm not a fan of black hexes, but they look really nice here!

I ditched all my moisturizers for this one little bottle?!

Hello Lovelies!

Alright I haven't quite gotten rid of *all* my moisturizers, but I've come pretty dang close! I've been reading rave reviews of jojoba oil for months on end, but I only got my hands on some a couple weeks ago, and I'm kicking myself that I didn't start using it earlier! I'm part of an email list called Elite Deal Club, and I was able to snag some jojoba oil sold by Art Naturals.
I've been using it nightly in place of the usual plethora of moisturizers, and I think it's actually helping clear up my skin along with being super moisturizing. It soaks into my skin fast, doesn't feel gross or oily, and it doesn't have a strong scent like argan oil. I'm loving it as a cuticle oil as well; it's great for damage control of a lengthy acetone soaked glitter removal session. This is 100% pure unrefined jojoba oil; here's the amazon link. It's going for about 11 dollars for 4oz, and since I only use a couple drops each night, the bottle is going to last me months. If you haven't tried it yet, or if you're iffy on using oils instead of lotion, give it a try!

Swatch Sunday: Ulta Oh!

Hello Lovelies!

This polish has been in my to-swatch pile for eons, I got it ages ago during one of Ulta's buy two get two sales in November. This is Ulta Oh!, it's a sheer pastel peach with a golden shimmer finish, and it took four coats to get it opaque enough for my taste. It has a pretty quick drytime though, so those four coats didn't bother me.
These swatches are with shiny topcoat. The formula's sheerness is the only downer, otherwise it's a stellar polish!

The mani who wouldn't die

Hello Lovelies!

Can I just say first off, this mani tried soooo hard to self destruct, over, and over, and over. First I smudged my base two or three times, I somehow forgot how to stamp properly, the images were only transferring halfway onto the nail, I wasted a 1/4 a bottle of CG trying to stamp, my glitter topper had the audacity to try and smear the stamping, and then I managed to whack my nails a couple more times in the picture taking process for good measure.
But somehow by the grace of god they ended up looking decent??? Whaaaa??
I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth so I'll just explain how I somehow ended up here: two coats of Color Club Pucci-Licious, stamped with BP-L003 and China Glaze First Mate, one thin coat of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Sea-ing Stars, and ended with Miracle Nail Topcoat

Heavenly Kaleidoscopes

Hello Lovelies!

I've concocted a glittery color shifting kaleidoscope of a mani! This stamping image comes from BP-L003; it strongly reminds me of the shifting spirals of a moving kaleidoscope, so I used an iridescent glitter underneath the stamping to really make that trait stand out! My base is Formula X Beacon, and then I used a light coat of Revlon Heavenly. I stamped with L.A Colors Gel Daring, and sealed it all in with Miracle Nail Topcoat.

Stamped Cathedral Windows

Hello Lovelies!

I've been playing around with some new stamping plates I got over the holidays, and I created this cathedral window inspired design with BP-L 003. I started these off with three coats of Formula X Beacon, and then I stamped with Pure Ice Home Run. I actually didn't use INM Out The Door for once, I used a dollar tree topcoat called Miracle Nail, and it somehow didn't smear my stamping which I was very impressed by!

Swatch Sunday: Formula X Beacon

Hello Lovelies!

I'm swatching up Formula X Beacon for the first time today! This is actually my first time using the brand, Beacon was given to me as a Christmas present, and I'm finally getting around to trying it out~

  • Opacity: 3 Coats
  • Dry time: 15 mns
  • Application: streaky, w/bald patches
In the bottle Beacon has a strong violet shimmer, but that didn't show up on my nails much at all, they ended up navy blue. This is three coats with shiny top coat. It has a pretty sheer formula, but it builds up nicely.

Alarming burrito pillow adventure

 Hello Lovelies!

You'd think that getting a pillow in the mail shouldn't be that hard right? Well, I was offered the chance to review this pillow by Original Bamboo and it turned into quite the process...
First off, when I unwrapped the box it shipped in, the pillow was rolled as tight as can be, like a burrito, and I had to fight it just the spring the thing from it's plastic wrapping death grip.
Then when I unrolled it, it looked like a sad taco, as you can see above. It came with a little paper that said "Don't be alarmed by the flatness and hardness of the pillow", so I suppose some people before me were surprised by the weird shape as well.
While I was puzzling out what to do with this thing, it "inflated" a bit, and uncurled too, but was still super flat. I finally noticed that the little paper also said to go to their website for further instructions on how to prepare the pillow (but really, I had to go to a website to find out how to use a pillow?!).
Turns out, you just take the case off and throw it in your dryer on low for 30-ish minutes, and it turns into a huge poofy thing.
It still feels a little hard for my liking, but this strange process was amusing to me, and thought you lovelies might get a laugh out of it!

Fairytale tropes mani

Hello Lovelies!

These nails are from quite a ways back, I ended up only posting them on Instagram, so I feel they deserve a write up. I created these for the fairytale theme in the #aiyoohehe20off challenge.
I went through my stamping plates and picked images I thought popped up in fairytales often, like witches, crowns, masks (masquerade balls or disguises?), peacock feathers, and finally True Love (I accidentally stamped that upside down...) which almost always triumphs over the evil villain.
Since I stamped these so long ago I'm not sure what all I ended up using, I know the crown and peacock print are from BP-L007, I stamped those and the witch with Salon Perfect Oh Snap!, and she came from SH02. I'm pretty sure the base is NYC Robin's Egg Blue. I stamped the mask and "True Love" with Color Club Reddy or Not, no idea which plates though.
I haven't painted any fairytale inspired nails in ages, I love reading about different culture's myths and folklore, I think the last collection I read was Japanese. Maybe I should re-boot my water kappa design?

What's up buttercup?

Hello Lovelies!

This has been a rather hectic week, and somehow I accidentally posted my Sunday swatch yesterday, so Saturday's weekly wrap up got moved to today. I'm starting a new full time job tomorrow so posting might slow down a tad, but I'll try my hardest to keep posting consistently! I have a thrift haul post planned and some new makeup tips to show you lovelies.

Swatch Sundays: Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Petal Pusher

Hello Lovelies!

I'm re-swatching an old favorite, but mattified! This is two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Petal Pusher with a coat of Pure Ice Frost Finish Matte Topcoat. This is a pastel strawberry milk pink creme, it has a great formula (works good for stamping too), and sometimes I can get away with one coat! I love using this as a base for stamping and patterned nail art.

Valentia Skin Detoxifying Clay Mask & Eternal Youth Exfoliating Scrub

Hello Lovelies!

I have another Valentia review today! They sent me their Skin Detoxifying Clay Mask and Eternal Youth Exfoliating Scrub to try out. I even went so far as to take some face mask pics to show you lovelies how these played out!

I just love the scent of the Eternal Youth Exfoliating Scrub, tea scented products are pretty rare to come by! I used to have a B&BW's mist that was white tea scented, but it up and ran off on me.

This scrub has the same jiggly jello texture as the last Valentia product I wrote about, it's fun to shake around in it's container :D
The scrub is a mix of pumice and jojoba beads, they're mixed into a thick cloudy gel. This is actually moisturizing too, which surprised me! You have to "chase" the scrubby beads around a bit because of the thick gel, but I actually enjoyed the thicker feeling. This is a gentle product as exfoliants go, so unless you have highly sensitive skin, you could use this everyday.

Clay mask (left) and scrub (right)
The clay mask is a lightly cranberry scented pale beige with black speckles (the exfoliating beads), and it's about the same thickness as yogurt. I've never run into an exfoliating clay mask before, you let the mask dry for 15 mins per usual, then when you remove it instead of just rinsing off, you use circular motions with a washcloth or your fingers, to get some added exfoliation. I usually watch youtube vids or catch up on anime while I wait for masks like this to dry, but it's always a challenge not to crack the mask while I'm cracking up at something funny that just happened.
This isn't as drying as other clay masks, and I love that it's a 2in1 product!

Henna blush

Hello Lovelies!

This post has been a long time coming, but got held back for ages by all the holiday craziness. This is another review for the site LadyQueen, they sent me Hehe006 and a cute ring as well.
I started these with two coats of Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Petal Pusher, then stamped it with China Glaze Unplugged, and finished it off with Pure Ice Frost Finish.
During this mani I had a near polish casualty, somehow I flipped the bottle of CG 360° , but it landed safely right side up with the brush still in the bottle, and not a speck of polish got on my bedspread, so go me!

I tried stamping first with Salon Perfect Oh Snap!, but for some reason it refused to transfer to my nail, it stamped onto the stamp head fine, but wouldn't stick to my nail at all. So I switched over to CG Unplugged, which worked great as you can see.
If you want to check out Lady Queen Beauty's site, click here! And here's a code just for you that's good for 15% off order: MWLC15

Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask by Valentia

Hello Lovelies!

Today I'm testing out the Ultra Plumping Hydration Mask that I was sent by Valentia! It's a lot like the Oz Naturals Amino Herbal Mask that I tried out awhile back, but better~
The mask is a peachy orange jelly mixture, it actually jiggles in the container just like jello, haha. It's made of a ton of lovely stuff, aloe vera, green tea, oats, dandelion, and lots more! Just by looking at the ingredients I can tell this is a great mixture for soothing skin, and it's moisturizing to boot! Horsetail is in there too which interested me, I hadn't stumbled upon that in the skincare world before. I found out that horsetail is anti-inflammatory which makes this great for irritated skin as well.
I use this after cleansing and leave the mask on for 20 mins, then rinse it off. It dried during that time which made me think it might not be that great of a moisturizer, but when I rinsed it off and "re-activated" it, my skin felt super soft and moisturized. This'll be great to use after clay masks, they always dry out the skin, and this'll be just the thing to quench that!

Indian Citrus - Subtle Body Essentials

Hello Lovelies!

I have a bit of a different kind of post today, I've been trying out this handmade soap that I was sent by Subtle Body Essentials, it's in the scent Indian Citrus. The packaging says "This complex & spicy twist on citrus will transport you to exotic lands. Heavy notes of blood orange & bergamot create a smooth and invigorating bar."
I'm not a fan of heady Indian scents, they're usually too strong for me, but this is certainly an exception!
The orange smells lovely, and I like the spicy undertones too. The bar lathers up amazingly, I'd almost say I like it better than the soap I get from SLAB (which has been my holy grail for bar soap). I'm definitely interested in trying their other scents!

Orange you glad to see these nails?

Hello Lovelies!

I've got a bright almost summery design to show you today, but it's actually snowing for the first time this year! But as you may have noticed already, I'm never very seasonally appropriate. Oh and a bit of news, I changed my instagram handle from alicexcupcakes, to @girlchickbetty!
These started with a base of Pure Ice Dollface, I stamped all my nails with W118 and Wet n Wild Blazed, then I used a thin coat of Ulta XOXO on my pinkie, index, and thumbnail. I topped them all off with INM Out The Door.

Oh Sugar! Lip Balm & Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara Review

Hello Lovelies!

My latest Voxbox from Influenster had two new awesome Covergirl products, the Oh Sugar! Lip Balm in Sprinkle, and the Plumpify Blast Pro Mascara in Very Black.
The mascara wand came packaged free from the tube which was neat, you can appreciate the unique bristle shape more when it's not all gunked up with mascara. The tube is pretty cute too!

It gave me pretty decent length with just one coat, and no clumping in sight. No flaking throughout the day either, and washed off easy. Nothing radically new in the mascara world, but nothing to sneeze at either!

Left is with one coat of mascara, right is bare lashes

The Oh Sugar! Lip Balm actually exceeded expectations for me, it looks like a lipstick but feels like chapstick. You can build it up to a deeper pink, below I used a sheer application. It doesn't last for ages because of it's lip balm qualities, but I think it's lovely and very moisturizing~
