It's always tea time here

Hello Lovelies!

Now that we've gotten back into our usual drizzly cold days over here in Oregon, my go to remedy is a piping hot cup of tea, lately I've been making two or three cups a day, so it's safe to say I go through tea by the box!
I just got out of a black tea kick, I tend to swing between strong black tea to light mint and herbal teas. WayGood Tea was kind enough to send me their Chamomile Mint blend to try out, and I've already had quite a few lovely cups of it!
It's a pretty simple herbal blend, but the mint and dandelion stand out to me the most, dandelion has always been one of my favorite kinds of tea.

It came in a pretty mint container, and each tea bag was individually wrapped so I won't have to worry about them getting stale, I've had tea before that I let sit in the cupboard too long and it's not nearly as nice then. It steeps to a pretty pale yellow, I was glad to have an excuse to bring out my glass teapot for the first time in forever for these pictures!

Slytherin Pride

Hello Lovelies!

I've got a quick post for you guys today, I recently went to a Halloween cosplay meet and went as a Slytherin so of course I painted nails to match. I was running pretty late that day though, so these pics are from the day after and I have a bit of tip wear, but not too bad.
These started off with bases of Rimmel London Camouflage and Color Mate Karen's Got A Gun, I stamped Karen's Got A Gun over Camouflage for the scaly nails, and the silver stripes were done with Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Celeb City.
The stamping plates used are BM-423 &BM-418. I matted it all with Wet n Wild Matte Topcoat.

Nail News

Hello Lovelies!

First off, sorry for the lack of posting, things got pretty busy these last couple days! Secondly, I've had an idea for a new series of posts, sort of like roundups, but not quite? Every week I'm thinking on gathering all the nail related "news" I've found interesting, designs that have been posted in that week that caught my attention, and maybe some of the really good sales I find online/in stores. And anything else nail related that I think you lovelies might find intriguing/I want to spread the word about.

Pastel Glittery Bats

I've been stalking Born Pretty's site lately, because I've got some BP Points to burn, and I'm deliberating between this polish because of the gorgeous bottle, and this amazing blue to purple thermal; which do you guys think I should get?
I'd love to hear what you lovelies think of these kinds of posts and also if you have any nail news to share with me!

Holographic Seafoam

Hello Lovelies!

I'm showing off my first ever attempt at nail foils today! Born Pretty sent me these Holographic Feather Leaves nail foils for review, they come on a clear roll of film and you get about three feet.
I started off the nails I was going to use the foil on with a base of Zoya Hazel, I was originally going to have all my nail be one color, but I had some trial and error with the foil, so I ended up with some gold nails (Lotus Herbals Color Dew Gold Mist). First I tried using nail glue to apply the foil, and after I absolutely demolished three nails by not waiting long enough for the glue to dry, or waiting too long, I switched to just using my Out The Door Top Coat, and that worked great.

And then since my flashy holo feathers made the gold nails seem plain, I layered one coat of China Glaze Liquid Crystal over that. Here's the link to the feather foils: 1pc Holographic Nail Foils Feather Leaves Foils Nail Art Transfer Sticker Paper, and this code is good for 10% off: ALBK31

Swatch Sundays: Zoya Hazel

Hello Lovelies!

I've had Zoya Hazel in my untried pile for a couple months, and I needed a base for some nail foils so I decided to snap some swatch pics while I was at it!
This is an icy blue foil shimmer with gold flecks, and it was completely opaque in two coats! My pictures don't do this polish justice, for some reason the shimmer freaked my camera out and I couldn't get any properly focused shots :/
It has a good dry time, less than five minutes, and that's without my fast drying topcoat!

Charcoal Detox Deep Pore Gel review

Hello Lovelies!

Lately I've been into trying out all sorts of different cleansers, so far African black soap has been my favorite, but this product is definitely catching up! This is Michael Todd's Charcoal Detox Deep Pore Gel Cleanser, they sent it over for me to test out a couple days ago, and I've been using it every morning and night.
In the morning I just use my hands, and then in the evening I use my facial cleansing brush. It's been doing an awesome job of cleansing my breakout prone skin, and really gets in there without leaving it feeling too dry or stripped of oils.

It comes in a huge 6.7 oz plastic pump, and one little pump's worth is enough for me, I can definitely smell the charcoal, and it also has tea tree oil which I've loved using on my skin in the past.
I think this bottle will last me a couple months which makes up for the big price tag, but the real clincher is the improvement I've seen in my skin in just a few days use.

It comes out as a pretty thick gel that suds up into a lush foam, and since it's such a thick consistency I only need to use a small pump.
I'll definitely add an update to this post once I've used it for a longer chunk of time, and tell you guys how/if it further improves my skin, and how long this bottle lasts me!

You're hot then you're cold-BPS Thermal Polish

Hello Lovelies!

I'm pretty excited to share this with you lovelies, today I'm swatching up my first thermal polish ever! Born Pretty recently sent me a box of goodies, and this is the one I was raring to try out first!
This is a bubblegum pink while warm, and a dark dusty grape while cold. I take my pictures outside because of lighting issues, and since it's been freezing lately, my nails are covered in water in most of these pics because I had to snap pictures right after dunking my nails in a bowl of warm water. This first picture is sorta mid transition, my tips tend to go darker than the rest of the nail once it's totally adjusted to my body temp.
It's kinda funny, I work in a call center and knit while I take calls, and they've had the AC in the building cranked so I'm always freezing, but once I started knitting for a while my hands warmed up enough to change my polish color, haha!

mid transition

left warm and right cold w/stamping

I added some stamping after a couple days, I stamped in Color Club Pucci-Licious so most of the time it's invisible, but if my nails are warm the stamping will peek out! It's rather entertaining to watch them fade through different shades throughout the day :)

warm
This is 104#, Born Pretty has a bunch of different thermal colors and I think four bucks a bottle is a great price, especially since they have free shipping too! Here's the link if you wanna scope it out: 1Pc 6ml Temperature Change Colour Nail Polish Thermal Polish Fashion Multicolor Nail Polish and here's a code for 10% off: ALBK31

left nails are warm, and right nails are cold

I could never go on without you, green eyes

Hello Lovelies!

I have a new Dream Eyes colored contact lens review for you today! These are the Green Sparkle contact lenses from Spooky Eyes, they're a mix of a bright forest green and the outer ring is a darker muddy green. Spooky Eyes sent me these to review, they're a huge online store that carries all sorts of colored contact lenses.
These weren't quite as comfortable as the last set they sent me, but my eyes have been a little irritated lately, even with just my regular makeup, so that might just be me.

I'm really happy with how well they blend with my natural eye color, I like how the color around the center is sort of jagged, so there isn't a definite line between the contact lens, and my eye.
I'm excited to wear these with my Nyo!England cosplay, her eyes are about as green as you can get, haha.

And so you can get a feel for the huge difference these made, the picture below is my natural eye color~

Velvet batty pinstripes

Hello Lovelies!

I can't believe we're almost halfway through October and this is the first Halloween mani I've done! O.O
Last year I was all over Halloween, and nearly had a new mani every day, but lately I've haven't been changing my polish up as often.
These started with a base of OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland, and then I stamped with OPI French Quarter for Your Thoughts & BM-411 and W116. I matted it all with Wet n Wild Matte Top Coat.
The stripes ended up reminding me of Jack Skellington's pinstripe suit, and I was very happy with how my bats stamped, those little wings can be fiddly to pick up!

Vampy Velvet

Hello Lovelies!

Instagram has been flooded with dark vampy "velvet" nails, and I just love the look of matte dark nails, so I broke out my matte topcoat for the first time in ages! I should really try out some different brands of matte topcoat, I've been using Wet n Wild's incarnation for ages, and the only other one I've used is NYC Matte Me Crazy. I'm very fond of the extremely matte finish, almost chalkboard, and Wet n Wild just hasn't been cutting it lately.

left is the natural finish, no topcoat, right is with matte topcoat

This is OPI Viking In A Vinder Vonderland from the Nordic Collection, I haven't worn this one in forever. I've got two coats with matte topcoat, I snapped a pic while they were still shiny since my last swatch post with this polish had horrible quality pictures.

All we have is stinkin' tuna!

Hello Lovelies!

One of the polish groups I'm part of on FB is having a giveaway, and to get an entry you have to paint your nails green; I ended up doing some Scrump nail art!
Lilo and Stitch is one of my favorite Disney movies, and I've always loved Scrump, I'm surprised she hasn't ended up on my nails yet! I started these with a base of Color Club La Petite Mint-Sieur on most of my nails, and Color Club Twiggie on the Scrump nail.
I used a combination of dotting tools and a detail brush for Scrump, and I tried to freehand "Ohana means family" across the rest of my nails, but the letters got kinda squished together.

Mint Chocolate Swirls

Hello Lovelies!

I recently stumbled up sveta_sanders on Instagram, and this tutorial jumped out at me, and I had to try it out! I've never done anything like this where you swirl wet polish while it's still on your nail, and I was blown away by how easy it is!
I'll definitely be playing around with this technique :)

I started with alternating bases of e.l.f Smoky Brown and Pure Ice Home Run, and then following her tutorial, I painted a stripe down each nail with the contrasting color. I finished off everything with INM Out The Door.

Foundations for ghosty gals

Hello Lovelies!

A couple months ago, I was on yet another hunt to find a foundation shade that would work for my pale skin tone. My problem is, most of the lighter foundation shades out there are warm tones a.k.a yellow/orange, and I need a cool pink toned foundation.
Once you get into high end brands, it's easier to find a shade that fits you, but I rarely stray from the drugstore since I don't want to shell out 25+ on one product.
I'd been using Covergirl TruBlend in Classic Beige for ages, because I found it for only 3 dollars a bottle at Big Lots, and it sorta matched my skintone, but not quite.

After reading a bunch of reviews on Makeup Alley, I heard that Hard Candy's Glamoflauge Foundation was a good line, with pale shades and for only six dollars. I picked out the lightest shade which was Porcelain and it was actually spot on for me, almost too pale! But once I use bronzer and blush, it looks fantastic. Or if I just want to use foundation by itself, I'll mix it with a tiny bit of that Covergirl TruBlend.
I've worn it to a couple of all day cosplay meetups, and even a convention so I've really put it to the test! It lasts all day without smudging or fading, it looks great it photos, and it doesn't oxidize at all. It does dry matte and slightly powdery, which I love because I tend to get oily throughout the day. But if you do have dryer skin, it does emphasize that a bit. Lately I've been skipping powder, because I'm not a fan of the really powdery look, and the foundation still holds up amazingly, it doesn't need to be set with a powder to last.
I filmed my foundation routine so you can see for yourself how it applies, the foundation is super opaque so I only use a quarter sized dollop, and I usually have a bit leftover even after using a beauty blender, which tends to soak products up.

Goofed geodes

Hello Lovelies!

I had a sudden urge to paint geode nails, and I would use textured polishes for the spiky gem encrusted insides, and in my head it sounded awesome and was going to turn out amazing, but in real life it kind of just turned into a glittery purple mess.
The endeavor started off with a base of e.l.f Thunderstorm because I figured the outside of geodes are usually a muddy grey, (I ended up totally covering the base in everything else...), then in the center of the nails I used 3 or 4 different Sally Hansen Sugar Coats to try to get that crusty textured inside. But for some reason they didn't dry right, and I never got that textured finish.
So in a last ditch attempt to fix it, I threw on some Color Club glitter in the center of the nails, and outlined the middle with a matte topcoat to emphasize the "texture", but alas, they still look nothing like geodes. :(
