We are the crystal gems

Hello Lovelies!

Although I do love the new Aiyoohehe plates to death, I am glad to be through my series of reviews on them and back to some fun freehand nail art! Steven Universe is my new obsession, so it was bound to pop up here on my nails some time or other, and when I saw these nails, I knew I had to re-create them!

If you haven't seen the show, each character is named after a precious stone/gem, and these nails are inspired by Steven's mom, Rose Quartz. Every crystal gem has a gem somewhere on their person, and Rose Quartz's is on her stomach shown through a star cut-out in her dress, that's what my thumb is. My index is the ruffles of her dress, middle and pinkie have some roses, and my ring features Rose Quartz herself!
I started with a base of Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Petal Pusher on my middle, ring, and pinkie, and OPI Alpine Snow for the rest. I used Wet n Wild Black Creme for all the black detailing, Wet n Wild Candy-Licious for her hair and lips, and Wet n Wild Lavender Creme for the hair and gem's highlights.

Aiyoohehe The Hayao Miyazaki Collection: My Neighbor Totoro

Hello Lovelies!

I've come to the last of this series *sniff*, but I've saved the best for last! My Neighbor Totoro isn't my favorite Ghibli creation, but Totoro is one of my favorite characters if that makes sense? I especially love the little mini Totoros, they're so cute!

Anyways, I started these off with a base of NYC Robins Egg Blue, and then stamped everything with e.l.f Smoky Brown and hehe plate 065.

Just like all the other plates, the images picked up easily and transferred great! I really love how the mushrooms came out, I've always considered fungi to be cute no matter what they're on.

Swatch Sundays: NYC Robins Egg Blue

Hello Lovelies!

I'm swatching up NYC Robins Egg Blue today, this is a bleached mint blue creme, that's opaque in two coats. I went with three though, because I whacked a nail and had to go over it again to patch the smear. This is with a coat of shiny topcoat. This leans a bit more green irl, so it is a true mint!

Lolita tea party and photo shoot

Hello Lovelies!

A while back I went to a Lolita tea party hosted by Wabi Sabi in Bend, and I wanted to show you some of the pics I got! Tea Cozies catered the tea party, and it was amazing, we had earl grey tea, scones, tea cakes, cucumber sandwiches, chocolate strawberries, and just a lot of lovely goodies!

After tea, we wandered down to the park for pictures since it was such a lovely day. Walking through the saturday market was interesting, we got stopped for quite a few pictures!

I had a lot of fun, and it was great wearing my dress out for the first time~

Of shoes and ships, and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings!

Hello Lovelies!

"What is the use of a book," thought Alice, "without pictures or conversation?” Kind of like my nails, I'll take pretty nail art over swatches any day!

Today I'm reviewing some Alice in Wonderland water decals I was sent by Born Pretty, I was surprised by how big the sheet turned out to be! I could get four full nails from each of those blocks at the bottom of the page, I don't much care for the images on the far right, but the rest of them are pretty cute! I'll have to do some playing card nails next~
I started these nails off with three coats of Ciate Dollface, and then topped the decals with Wet n Wild Clear Nail Protector.

Here's where you can find them on BP's site, and this code is good for 10% off: ALBK31

Swatch Sundays: Powder Perfect Bay of Alexandria

Hello Lovelies!

I have a very special polish to show off today, my awesome boss sent me this polish because the name is just too perfect!
This is the glitziest blue I've ever had on my nails, this may be my new favorite shade!

Powder Perfect Bay of Alexandria is a glitter bomb packed with teal micro glitters that dries to a semi matte sugar finish. This is two coats with topcoat to smooth out that sugar finish. I was dreading removal with this one, but since the glitters are so fine, it didn't give me much grief.

May all your bacon burn

Hello Lovelies!

Next plate up; Howl's Moving Castle! I had a hard time deciding how to place the images on this one, I could've gotten way more of Howl onto the nail if I put him on my thumb, but I couldn't split up Howl and Sophie!
I love that they used the sky walking scene for the images, Sophie's expression is just too cute!

I wish my turnip head stamping had come out clearer, I used NYC Robin's Egg Blue, I should've gone with white instead.
I stamped Howl and Sophie with OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland, and the flowers on the pinkie and gears were done with e.l.f Thunderstorm. This is hehe plate 061.

My base is Pure Ice Purple Haze layered over Poppy Happy Place!

Aiyoohehe The Hayao Miyazaki Collection: Ponyo

Hello Lovelies!

Here's the second part of my series on the new Hayao Miyazaki plates from Aiyoohehe! Today's mani features plate 066, a.k.a Ponyo! Ponyo is one of my favorite Ghibli movies, I especially love the scene after the town is flooded with all the prehistoric looking huge sea creatures.
But these nails don't have any frightening behemoths, just cute goldfish!

I started off with a base of Salon Perfect Mer-Made of Money, I stamped Ponyo and her sisters with e.l.f Mango Madness, and then all the water and bubbles were done with L'oreal Indigo Classic. This plate was just as wonderfully etched at the last one, although my stamping didn't come out perfectly because of the heat, things were drying faster than usual.

See you later with the next plate!

Zozae Makeup Brushes

Hello Lovelies!

I have a beauty post for you today, Zozae sent me their 8 piece makeup brush set to review, so now I'm going to tell you what I thought of them!

The brushes came in this black fold up case, they each have their own slot, and it has a flap that covers the brush bristles so they don't get mussed up when you snap the case shut. These are synthetic brushes, but they look and feel like natural hair. When I first opened the package I noticed that the case itself has a strong factory smell to it, but after about a week the scent has faded to almost nothing.

It came with eight brushes, a powder brush, angled blush/contour brush, flat paddle foundation brush, angled eyeliner brush, lip brush, eyeshadow shader brush, tapered blending brush, and a flat concealer brush.
The brushes are very soft, and I haven't had any hairs fall out so far. I like that the tips of the bristles are white so you can easily see how much product you have on it, and the carrying case is going to be very nice, usually I just shove my brushes loose in a makeup bag, so this'll be a lifesaver. I made a short vid on my youtube channel if you like to see them in action, here.

Swatch Sundays: Pure Ice Purple Haze

Hello Lovelies!

I haven't bought any new Pure Ice's in ages, none of their new lines have really stood out. But I found Purple Haze hiding on a back shelf, on clearance for a dollar, so it had to come home with me!
Pure Ice Purple Haze is from the New Year, New Hue Collection, and it's a purple tinted jelly with multicolor iridescent micro hex glitters. I layered it over a periwinkle cream (forgot the name!), because this is such a sheer polish and I didn't want to go with five layers just to get it opaque.

Spooky Eyes Blue Shimmer Colored Contact Lenses

Hello Lovelies!

I've always been interested in trying out circle lenses and colored contacts for cosplay, so I was very excited when Spooky Eyes sent me a set for review. I picked out the Blue Shimmer lenses, since my favorite cosplay right now is Nyo!America, and she has blue peepers. These lenses didn't completely cover my irises so my natural hazel color peeks out, but if you're not totally zoomed in on my eyes, I think it blends in nicely. They definitely made my eyes look huge! I can't wait to use them at the next cosplay meet I attend. Spooky Eyes has a some pretty crazy styles and colors, I thought these were gorgeous!

They're a bit darker than the picture on the product page here, but still definitely blue. Since this was my first time using contacts I didn't want to tangle with eye makeup, but I think these will look even more amazing once I add my usual winged eyeliner and shadow.

Aiyoohehe The Hayao Miyazaki Collection: The Cat Returns

Hello Lovelies!

I haven't been this excited since I found Lucky 13 Lacquer's Labyrinth polishes! Aiyoohehe came out with an entire collection of Studio Ghibli stamping plates! Eeeeeeee!
I bought five plates, and they threw in an extra for me, so I decided to do a series of reviews on each plate.
First up to plate (heheh, get it?), is hehe 070, The Cat Returns!

I wanted to test out all the images, so you're seeing both hands today! I was blown away by how great of a stamp I got from these, even the Baron's whiskers picked up! Haru looks wonderful too, but I'm just loving all the details on the Baron.

As you can see, I tried stamping the Baron in white on this hand, and it didn't go so well. But I'm going to blame the polish, Sinful Colors Snow Me White isn't a very opaque stamping polish. The cat next to the Baron is Muta, I tried using a light yellow but the polish was too sheer. The plates are etched nice and deep, so I think I was just having polish problems.

There's even a little cat stampede! I wish they had included an image of the King, but this was quite a spread to fit all onto one plate! I stamped all of these over a base of OPI French Quarter For Your Thoughts.

Swatch Sundays: China Glaze Pelican Grey

Hello Lovelies!

This is China Glaze Pelican Grey, it's actually a shimmer not a creme, but it's super subtle. This is two coats without topcoat, it has a nice shiny finish by itself. It's actually gotten so hot around here that my polish wouldn't dry properly! I used this as a base for a stamping design, and I usually want my base bone dry before I stamp, but after two hours it was still tacky. I think the heat messes with the chemicals of the polish?

Coral curvy stripes & BPS ribbon decals

Hello Lovelies!

Do you ever have a bad nail day? I think they're the evil twin of bad hair days, but somehow way more frustrating. Originally these nails were going to have a gradient, but somehow I screwed that up so badly that I had bald patches. Then I tried for a distressed nail design since I already had the polishes for my gradient out, but that also bombed. So I just took everything off, and freehanded some simple curvy stripes. And they actually came out decently, usually when I'm at that deep state of nail failure everything looks horrible.

These started with a base of OPI Alpine Snow, then I added the stripes with Wet n Wild Wild Shine Blazed & Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Petal Pusher. The glitter is The Color Workshop Gold Digger, and then I added some Born Pretty water decals on the bare spaces at the top of each nail. I didn't topcoat over the decals because I didn't want to chance them smearing. I actually wore these nails for quite a while, those bows are too cute!

Here's the product page for the bows if you want to check them out, they come in a couple different styles, and they're super cheap, I'll be able to get a bunch of different sets of nails from the one sheet of decals! If you ever order anything from Born Pretty, this code is good for 10% off your order: ALBK31
