Swatch Sundays: China Glaze In a Lily Bit

Hello Lovelies!

I was surprised when I realized I hadn't swatched this up yet, I use it as a base in so many of my stamping designs! This is China Glaze In a Lily Bit, it's a bleached pastel purple, it looks pink at a distance, but it's actually just a super pale purple. This is three coats, and it has an agreeable formula, didn't streak too badly on me like pastels tend to do.

This is without topcoat, so you can see the shiny finish it has all by itself. It lasted for around 5 days with topcoat before I started seeing chips.

Cheerful Chevrons

Hello Lovelies!

I haven't pulled out any crellies in ages, so I kept today's design pretty simple to show off the full awesomeness of Model's Own Magpie. Magpie is a bright teal blue creme with hex and micro black glitters, shown below is three coats.
I added the stamping with Wet n Wild Wild Shine Black Creme and BM-423, then I finished it off with a shiny topcoat. Blue is a favorite nail color of mine, and I love crellies of any shape or size, so this is one of my number one polishes, (I don't use it enough!).

Arabian nights, beneath Arabian moons

Hello Lovelies!

I saw a re-make of these nails on Cubbiful, and I've tracked down the original design here at Let's Nail Moscow. I've always loved the old style of buildings with rounded tops and steeples, so I had to re-create these myself.
These started with a base of L.A Colors Gel Finish Daring, then I sponged e.l.f Mod Mauve over it, and added a super thin coat of The Color Workshop Gold Digger. I used Daring again for all of the buildings, and outlined them with OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland and my striper brush. I finished it all off with a shiny topcoat!

It's not easy being green

Hello Lovelies!

I was playing around with the new Salon Perfect neons, and I came up with this bright gradient! This started with a base of Salon Perfect Loopy Lime, and then I created the gradient with L.A Colors Colors Craze Seashell and Salon Perfect Mermade of Money.

I stamped the circles with Mermade of Money and the St. Merry plate by GoGo Only, then finished it off with a shiny topcoat.

Mini Posts: Essence Lash Princess Mascara Review

Hello Lovelies!

I bought this because the super cute packaging caught my eye, but it turned out to be a really good mascara, so I'm doing a quick review of it today!

This is Essence Lash Princess, it has a pretty dry formula that dries fast, it clumps a little bit, but doesn't turn into full out spider lashes. I usually curl my lashes, but these pics are uncurled because I wanted to show off the mascara by itself. It has a large tapered wand, since it's a larger wand than average, it's a bit tricky to get at my lower lash line. It doesn't cause any fall out or flaking throughout the day, and it's not too stiff so I'll be using this often in my makeup routine!

Swatch Sundays: China Glaze First Mate

Hello Lovelies!

First off this polish gets major brownie points for being a one coater, that one of the best things a polish can do in my book. This is China Glaze First Mate, it's a creamy medium navy blue that applies like a dream. It has a nice glossy finish to it, these pics are without topcoat. This is a great one for stamping too, it stamps very opaquely, I used it in this mani a while back.

Let's run away and join the circus

Hello Lovelies!

I've had quite a few stamping fails in the past couple weeks because I keep picking colors that don't contrast enough, so my stamping doesn't show up at all, or it ends up looking very subtle. So I've decided to try painting some designs in color combos that I usually would never put together.
I started these nails off with L.A Colors Color Craze Hottie; a neon coral orange creme. I added a thin coat of Color Club Backstage Pass, it's a clear based glitter topper with dark purple and silver hex/square glitters. Then I stamped  everything with OPI Viking In A Vinter Vonderland and the Gogo Only St. Merry plate. I turned it matte with NYC Matte Me Crazy.
Usually I'd only use this bright of an orange with purple for a halloween design, but I think it turned out nicely!

These really remind me of the colors you'd see used in carnival posters or ticket stubs, plus the matte finish really brings home that papery feel.

Covergirl The Super Sizer Mascara and Intensify Me! Liquid Liner review

Hello Lovelies!

I'm reviewing the Covergirl Voxbox today! I was sent the box by Influenster, and it came with the brand new Covergirl The Super Sizer Mascara and the Intensify Me! Liquid Liner in Intense Black. The first pic here is just the eyeliner, with bare lashes. It's a felt tip paddle shaped liner, you can tip it on it's side for thin lines, or use the flat end for thicker lines. It's one of the better felt tip liners I've tried, but it still tugged at my lid a bit while I was using it, it didn't hurt, just felt a bit strange.
This isn't a water proof liner, and it did smudge up on me throughout the day, but I'm pretty rough on my liners since my eyes like to tear up. It has a nice opacity to it, I didn't have to go over any spots twice.

The second pic is with two coats of The Super Sizer mascara in Very Black. It has a plastic tapered wand, and the instructions advise you to twirl the wand as you apply the mascara to get maximum length. It didn't really give me any volume, but I got some pretty nice length with it, and it didn't clump. I hate the spidery lash look, so it passed that test! This is a semi-wet mascara, and it dried pretty fast, with no flaking or fallout throughout the day.

So overall I'd recommend The Super Sizer mascara, and you're probably better off skipping the liner. I'll always pick a brush liner over felt tips.

Mini Posts: Swatch Sundays L.A Colors Color Craze Hottie

L.A Colors Color Craze Hottie is a neon coral orange creme, this is two coats with topcoat. It has a strong pink undertone, but my camera refused to pick it up. L.A Colors seems to have really upped their game lately, I'm loving their cremes!

Salon Perfect Neon Pop Collection Swatches

Hello Lovelies!

I have some swatches of the new Neon Pop Collection by Salon Perfect to show you today!

First up is Mer-Made of Money, and I'll admit I mostly got this one because of the name. It's a super bright neon aqua blue creme, this is two coats over a base of OPI Alpine Snow. You might be able to get away with one coat of it if you have a super steady hand, but I got a few streaks so I had to go in a second time. I swatched all of these over a white base to help the neons to really pop.

This is Loopy Lime! It's a seriously bright neon lime green, that leans a bit towards yellow. Since these are neons they all dry matte, so I used a shiny topcoat for all of these swatches too.

And finally here's Oh Snap! It's a neon pink coral, the most neon of the bunch! It has great wear time too, I'm on day three with only one tiny chip. I really love this one, I'll definitely be getting a lot of wear out of it!

There will be a head for you, and a tail for me?

Hello Lovelies!

This is the last of my trio of Born Pretty reviews! I had seen these goldfish outline stickers before, and I was so excited when I found out I was going to get to review them, I love koi and goldfish designs. I thought about using China Glaze Japanese Koi with these stickers to be clever, but the neon orange would drown out the stickers I think.
So I started off with China Glaze First Mate, and then layered Sinful Colors Nail Junkie over the top. Those blue glitters look fantastic as my "water" background.

I filled in parts of the stickers with Sinful Colors Prosecco and OPI Viking in a Vinter Vonderland. I used a very light hand when filling in the tails because I wanted to still have glimpses of the gold show through the polish. And finally I finished it off with a shiny topcoat. The stickers are super thin so they lay seamlessly on top of my nails, you'd never know that they're stickers!

This is the sheet of stickers, you get a couple different styles of goldfish to pick from, I used the smallest on my pinkies, and the large fat ones on my thumb. Here's their product page if you want to check them out, here. And here's a 10% off code just for you if you order anything: ALBK31

L.A Colors Extreme Shine Gel Daring

Hello Lovelies!

I was finally able to track down the L.A Colors Gel polishes, I've been itching to try them out ever since I saw the press release! This is Daring, it's a bright turquoise blue. And it's a one coater too! I love the new brushes L.A Colors has switched too, I have some old Color Crazes and I always got streaks galore with those brushes.
I stamped over it with China Glaze First Mate and the St.Merry by Gogo Only plate.

I used topcoat because I stamped, but this blue definitely has a super glossy gel-like finish. Besides that, not much of a difference between it and normal creme polishes, though it has a slightly thicker consistency.

Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow

Hello Lovelies!

I have a board on pinterest where I pin drawings, food, animals, and random cute things that I might draw inspiration from for nail art designs, and this little guy has been sitting in it for months.
I have a thing for cute sentient food, and it makes for awesome nail art!
I started these happy watermelon gals off with two coats of Ulta Let The Flames Begin. The green rind is Pure Ice Free Spirit, and I used Sinful Colors Black on Black for the faces and outlines.

Do you find yourself drawing inspiration from strange places?

Swatch Sundays: Revlon Parfumerie Beachy

Hello Lovelies!

I've been avoiding swatching my untried Parfumerie polishes for awhile since I've had terrible luck with them. I've had two so far that have given me killer headaches from the scent.
But this one is a winner! This is Revlon Parfumerie Beachy, it's a really pretty golden honey shimmer. It's opaque in two coats, it was a little patchy but not too bad. The scent is kind of funny, it smells just like sunscreen! Not the first thing that pops into my head when I try to think of beach smells, but it makes sense. It has a very light scent, didn't have any problems with this polish in that sense.

Pretty Pedi Project Contest!

Hello Lovelies!

You might remember my post from awhile ago, where I aired my thoughts on why people shouldn't be so squeamish about showing their pretty pedis off. I've teamed up with Debbie (a.k.a WonderfulWolf) to hold a toenail art contest to get people more motivated about showing off their toes! It will be held on Instagram and run from today to the 17th. I'll have the rules further down, along with prizes.
I wanted to get in on the fun too, so here's my pedi to get you into the spirit of things!

I started with Color Club Eternal Beauty, then I stamped with Color Club Right On. I seem to run into this problem too often, I never pick colors that contrast enough. I used BM-407 on my big toe, it's a cameo. Then I stamped a floral pattern on the rest of my toes with BM-708, I couldn't get it to show up in my pictures at all sadly.

And now we get to the fun part! I'll be giving away two prize packs for US candidates, and there will be two prize packs for UK candidates, hop on over to WonderfulWolf to check those out!

This is the runner up prize pack, starting from the top left to right is: Wet n Wild Wild Shine Lavender Creme, Wet n Wild Wild Shine Caribbean Frost, Color Mates Little Blue Box, two unnamed L.A Colors polishes, e.l.f Purple Dream, L.A Colors Color Craze Current, an unnamed e.l.f polish, e.l.f Nude, L.A Colors Color Craze Splash, L.A Colors Color Craze Sea Siren, and a Color Mates nail art striper in Tangerine.

And here's the main prize pack! From left to right is e.l.f  Sea Escape, Color Mates Cloud Nine from the Halo Hues Collection, Revlon Parfumerie Autumn Spice, stamping plates Pueen 71, and Bundle Monster BM-416.

Here's all the rules, make sure to read through!

- There is no theme, paint your nails anyway you want, but your toes must show some  sort of 'nail art'. Stickers/decals/wraps are NOT allowed but stamping is A-ok.
- The competition will run from May 1st through May 17th 12:00 AM PST.

-  UK and US residents only
- @wonderfulwolf is handling the UK entries
- @alicexcupcakes is handling the US entries.
-  There are two prize bundles for each country (winner and runner up). See your relevant host for the post of prize bundles.
- Depending on your country, use the relevant hashtag for your Instagram entry;
- UK residents use '#prettypediprojectUK'
- US residents use '#prettypediproject'
- Remember to tag both @alicexcupcakes and @wonderfulwolf in your post, do not tag us in the actual photo please. Make sure your account is public so we can see your work!
- You can enter more than one nail art design as long as they're different, this will give you more entries.
- Winners will be chosen randomly via Random Number Generator.
- 18 years and over only, or with parents permission.
- This giveaway is not sponsored, all prizes are supplied personally by the hosts.

I'm so excited to see what you guys come up with! What are your thoughts on the toe debate? Let me know!
