Retro minty chrome nails

Hello Lovelies!

The chrome polish I used for these nails is one of my favorite silver polishes, it's opaque in one coat, great for stamping, and ridiculously shiny. But it came from a set of generic unnamed polishes from the dollar tree that I haven't seen since, and it's a mini bottle so I use it pretty sparingly. Do any of you lovelies know of a polish similar to this one?
I went with some retro 50's inspired nails today, I painted just the tops of my nails with the chrome polish, and then filled in the rest with RGB Minty, it's a seafoam green creme polish that's almost a one coater, but not quite.

I added some dots with black acrylic paint and outlined the edge between the chrome and mint polishes. I waited until the dots were completely dry to topcoat, acrylic paint tends to smear if it's wet.

As seen on tv Air Curler review

Hello Lovelies!

I found this peculiar product a couple days ago for a dollar, since it's an as seen on tv product I'm assuming it didn't do too well if it ended up at the Dollar Tree.
It looked too weird to pass up, so I risked it eating my hair, tried it out, and I'm still here to tell the tale!

This is everything that comes in the box, it has some instructions but it's mostly just warnings about not using high heat as it might hurt the plastic. It comes with a little rubber ring to use if the nozzle is too big for your hair dryer, mine was so I used it and it was still a little loose.

First time around I tried it with slightly damp hair like the box said, and it did make a couple twirly curls, but they fell right out. I have super thick hair so I knew trying this with actually wet hair was totally out of the question.

With damp hair

Second time around, I tried spritzing small sections of hair with hairspray and then putting them in the air curler, it did help a bit and gave me more results, but still nothing I would call a curl. The aircurler whips your hair around in a cotton candy like manner, I used it for about 20 seconds on each portion of hair.
Maybe this would work better with thinner hair, my thick hair won't hold a curl with a regular curler as it is. It was fun to use though, I've never seen anything like it before!

The happiest place on earth

Hello Lovelies!

Unfortunately I did these while trying a diy peel off base coat for the first time, so I have some funky edges to my polish. While I was brainstorming for ideas I saw a pic of the disney castle logo, and went "Oh, how have I not done that yet?!"
Since I have short nails at the moment, I wasn't able to squeeze in that much of the castle, so I spread it across three nails, and then did the stylized D on my index finger and mickey mouse on my thumb.

I started off with Revlon Whimsical layered over Essie Mint Candy Apple, and then freehanded the white detailing with acrylic paint and an almost dry brush to create a weathered paint texture. I matted the design with Wet n Wild Wild Shine Matte Top Coat.

Watercolor tribal gradient nails

Hello Lovelies!

I tried a new kind of gradient today, I used four polishes and swiped them on a sponge in a 2x2 square, so not the usual line of stripes. I sponged them over a white base to make the blues really pop, I had to go over it a few times to get everything the way I wanted, and I love how it turned out!

I used Wet n Wild Wild Shine French White Creme, then I sponged with Jordana Boy Oh Boy, Color Club Chelsea Girl, Wet n Wild Megalast I Need A Refresh-Mint, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Jade Jump.
I stamped over it with Bundle Monster BM-402, BM-403, and Ciate Paperdoll.

I love how it turned out looking like indian pottery, I used one green polish in the gradient to contrast against all those blues, and it really added to the whole watercolor look. I matted the whole design with Wet n Wild Wild Shine Matte Top Coat.

Essie Mind Your Mittens & Merci Boku stamping

Hello Lovelies!

I found a bunch of cheap Essie polishes at Grocery Outlet of all places, they were only 2.99 each! For these nails I started off with two coats of Essie Mind Your Mittens, it's a blackened navy creme that's totally opaque in two coats. I frequently hear people saying they steer clear of Essie because their formulas are watery and need tons of coats to become opaque, but Mind Your Mittens is a fantastic creme that applies beautifully.

I stamped with Essie Merci Boku, that's such a cute name! It's a bleached copper shimmer, and I was surprised by how well it stamped, usually shimmers don't play well with thin stamping designs. I used Bundle Monster plate BM-406.

Mini Posts: Wet n Wild Fast Dry How I Met Your Magenta Swatch

Hello Lovelies!

Here's a quickie swatch for you, believe it or not this was the base color for these nails, my gradient totally changed the color of this gorgeous pink. This is Wet n Wild Fast Dry How I Met Your Magenta. It's a very watery creme, almost a jelly but not quite. This is three coats without topcoat, it's a watermelon pink with a faint gold shimmer that pops up in the sun. Even with three coats, this dried super fast!

Rue21 Pink Ice Swatches

Hello Lovelies!

I usually don't put much stock into polishes from mall stores like Rue21, but this polish pleasantly surprised me! It's a tangerine orange jelly full of iridescent hex glitter, it does show your nail line, I stopped at three coats because it would probably take 5+ coats for no visible nail line, and personally it doesn't bug me that much.

I stamped over my glittery jelly goodness with e.l.f Pot Of Gold and BM-406, the stamping looks a bit more opaque irl, but not by much. I topcoated with my usual topcoat, the Rue21 polish dried surprisingly fast, even with 3 coats. It's from their Pink Ice line, but I couldn't find a name anywhere on the bottle, that's the one thing I don't like about their polishes.

Swatch Sundays: KB Shimmer Daisy About You

Hello Lovelies!

These are the last of my sadly lit pictures, I was just going to delete them, but they do show the glitters in this polish nicely, so here they are!
This is KB Shimmer Daisy About You, it's a pastel mint crelly with lime green, lavender, and white glitters. This is three coats with topcoat.

I got a comment asking if I'd ever thought about taking pictures of each coat so you could see how the polish builds up, so in between manis I took these. I took a pic for each coat, somehow in my full swatch I didn't get any of the purple flower glitter, but I got one with these. In my future swatch posts would you lovelies like me to include these coat by coat pics too?

L is for the way you look at me

Hello Lovelies!

I whipped up some very pink nails for Valentines day! I started with a subtle gradient using Wet n Wild Megalast How I Met Your Magenta as the main polish. For the tips I used Color Club Right On and NYC Fruit Punch. Then because the more pink the better I topped it off with Sephora by OPI G-listen To Your Heart.

All of the stamping was done with BM-426, the same plate also has hate in the same font as this love design, I might have some fun with that :) I stamped with Sinful Colors Black On Black and matted everything with NYC Matte Me Crazy.

Very superstitious, writings on the wall

Hello Lovelies!

Ok first off, this is the first time in two years I've actually done a mani for the Friday the 13th, somehow I always miss it, and then two days after I'll go, crap I did it again! But I finally pulled it off today, so half of the happiness I'm feeling from these nails is just from that :)
I went with a smattering of superstitious/unlucky things, a shattered mirror on my pinkie, a folding ladder on my ring, a black cat on my middle, an open umbrella on my index (since people think opening umbrellas indoors is bad luck), and a big 13 on my thumb!

I started with a base of Ciate Paper Doll, freehanded the designs with Sinful Colors Black On Black, stamped the shattered glass with SH22 and the same SC polish. And then I topped it all of with NYC Matte Me Crazy!

KB Shimmer Daisy About You with Floral Stamping

Hello Lovelies!

I've been experimenting with different hand poses and lighting, and I think I've finally landed on what I've been trying to find. I've been trying to get my lamp set up so I can take pictures after dark, but these outdoor pictures look lightyears better, so I think I'll just try to time my manis so I can take pictures in the day.
I've been digging into my untrieds, and I picked KB Shimmer Daisy About You for today's nails!

KB Shimmer Daisy About You

Daisy About You is a pastel mint creme with lime green, lavender, and white glitters in hex, square, and micro forms.
This is three easy coats, I was expecting more glitter on the nail, but I didn't fish around at all so this is just what came out on the brush. Next time I'll try leaving the bottle upside down for a while before polishing so the glitters will come out easier.

I stamped it with BM-419 and Konad White, I love this delicate floral print over the mint! I'm looking forward to using it in spring designs.

Ciate London Dolls House Nail Swatches

Hello Lovelies!

I've gotten into the habit of taking pictures of nail polish swatches before starting my nail designs, so I decided to start a new series of posts here on the blog, Sunday Swatches! For the first post in this series, I'm swatching part of the Ciate London Dolls House Collection. I found it at Burlington Coat Factory for 4.98, the box was crinkled and banged up so I think that's why it was marked so low.

It has five different pastel polishes, Doll Face, Poppet, Baby Doll, Paper Doll, and Sweet Pea. They call them "Porcelain Powdery Textured Polishes". These are extremely matte polishes that dry quickly, and they're all creme finishes.

They come in a cute little package that looks like a doll house, it has a flap on the front that opens up so you can see the polishes all lined up pretty. Shown below is Sweet Pea, a very pale cucumber green, and Poppet which is a pale lavender. I used three coats for both, since these have such an intense matte finish it actually gave me some trouble in application, so I smoothed things out with a shiny topcoat. I forgot to take pictures of them while they were still matte....

Baby Doll is a pale pastel peach pink (say that five times fast!), I also used three coats and a shiny topcoat with this one. I think I can use this as a base for a lot of different nail designs, I'm always looking for new nude/beige polishes like this.

Kamisama Hajimemashita Nails

Hello Lovelies!

One of my favorite animes is Kamisama Hajimemashita, in the show a girl becomes the patron god of an old shrine, and in the shrine are two little spirits whom I've always thought were pretty cute. They wear masks so this was pretty easy to plan out, because they always have the same expression.

I painted the spirit Onikiri on the left and Kotetsu on the right, I mostly used acrylic paints, but there's a bit of polish there too. I threw in some abstract flowers on the rest of my nails so they wouldn't be left bare. I recently picked up a set of Ciate polishes, the lavender is Ciate Poppet and the mint is Ciate Sweet Pea.
They dry to an extremely matte finish so before I started the nail art, I used a coat of shiny top coat to make things easier.

Sinful Colors Cinderella and Revlon Heavenly Swatches

Hello Lovelies!

I recently got a couple new Sinful Colors polishes, and Cinderella was one of them! Sinful Colors Cinderella is a pastel sky blue creme with subtle pink shimmery finish. I had to use almost four coats for full opacity, and it still looked a little streaky in some places. If I had waited for each coat to dry completely I would've been able to get by with less, but as you can see, I was impatient.

I snagged Revlon Heavenly at Big Lots a couple weeks ago, it has square holographic glitter and iridescent blue hex glitters in a sheer milky white base. Shown below is two coats of Heavenly with topcoat.

Hard Candy Sweet Tooth Swatches & Nail Art

Hello Lovelies!

I was in the mood for some swatching, so I pulled out Hard Candy Sweet Tooth since I've somehow never swatched it.
Hard Candy is a milky white crelly with teal, sky blue, and silver hex glitters. Shown here is three coats with no top coat, it doesn't have that gritty texture that you sometimes get with crellies.

I decided to add some stamping, the blue stamping made my base look like a light blue instead of white? I used Color Club Chelsea Girl and BM-410, and then finished off with topcoat.
