Mint & gold crackle french tips

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is use a topper that's not glitter, this had me stumped for a while, but then I went, "Oh duh, I can use a crackle coat".
I've tried to make designs with crackle coats before, and it's never worked, so I went with a french tip. I started off with a base of Color Club La Petite Mint-Sieur (I've been using this one a ton lately), and then I used China Glaze Cracked Medallion for the french tips. I think I went too thick with Cracked Medallion so I didn't get that great of a crackle effect, but it's not too bad.

Re-trying my first ever nail art design and Color Club Pucci-Licious swatches

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is to re-create an old manicure of your own, I decided to re-do the first nail art I posted on this blog. You can see the original post here, I had done some hot chocolate nail art for a 365 challenge I was doing back then.
I kept the purple base, and then I painted steaming cups of tea and coffee in something closer to my current style. I'd love to hear what you think of the change in quality between the two!

I used Color Club Pucci-Licious for the base, it was almost a one coater, but not quite. It has a nice thick creamy formula, it reminded me how much I like purple polishes, I hardly ever wear them.

I used black and white acrylic paint for all the outlining and highlighting, and then a whole spread of pastel polishes for the mugs and tea cups. On my thumb and index finger I used Sinful Colors Let Me Go for the swirls of steam, Let Me Go is a sheer iridescent purple that leans towards blue, I think it's really pretty over this purple.

Starrily Poisoned Apple Swatches

Hello Lovelies!

I have another swatch from the depths of my picture files from back when I still had long nails! This is Starrily Poisoned Apple, it's a holographic deep raspberry pink, in the shade you can see little gold flecks, but they're drowned out by the holo in direct light.

As you can see, above is in direct sunlight and below is in the shade. Usually I have a preference between how a polish looks in the sun vs. the shade, but I think this is gorgeous both ways!
This is two coats with topcoat.

Floating Leaves with Delush Polish Bitchcraft

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is complement and contrast! I was inspired by these nails by Flight Of Whimsy, and since the nail art pops against the glittery background I thought it fitted nicely with this theme.

I got a kick out of the name of my black polish, it's a black jelly with pink, purple, and silver glitters in various shapes and sizes. I layered it over two coats of Sinful Colors Black On Black since I have a pretty small bottle, it's Delush Polish Bitchcraft.

I used China Glaze In A Lily Bit for the leaves and outlined them with Black On Black.

Trying stamping decals for the first time with Color Club Tru Passion

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is decals! I've never made decals before so there was a bit of trial and error before I got something I was happy with, for some reason I couldn't get the decals to peel off when I did them on a plastic sheet, so I ended up doing them directly on a stamper.
I used Wistonia W118 for the decal, stamped with Sinful Colors Black On Black, and then filled it in with China Glaze In A Lily Bit and Color Club La Petite Mint-Sieur.

I originally set out to make decals for my whole hand, but since I ended up making them on my stamper, I only did one. So to spice up my bare nails, I used Color Club Tru Passion. Tru Passion is a fine glitter topper with lavender and micro glitter. I layered one coat of the glitter over a base of Revlon Cloud.

Guess who finally figured out how to use her micro setting?! Not a very exciting close up, but I'm looking forward to getting better pics of glitter swatches in the future.

Orange is the new black

Hello Lovelies!

I've been wanting to try out L.A Colors Color Craze Hottie, and today's theme was "white base", so I painted this skittle mani!
Hottie is looks more coral toned irl than here, for some reason it would only show up nemo orange in my pics.
I started off with two coats of Sinful Colors Snow Me White and then layered EN-VY Funny Bunny over the top, it's a sheer milky white shimmer polish that I like to use to soften looks like this.

I used my striping brush to add all the black detailing with Sinful Colors Black On Black, then went in again and filled some of it in with Hottie, and added some striping as well. I topcoated it with Wet n Wild Wild Shine Clear Nail Protector.

My last ditch effort to get accurate colors was to try holding this flower, it worked a bit, but it's still not the right pinky coral that this polish is irl.

Starrily Gumballs Swatches

Hello Lovelies!

I feel like I haven't posted any swatches in eons, so I dragged this out of the caverns of my computer to show ya!
This is Starrily Gumballs, I layered it over Sinful Colors Black On Black to let the neons really pop! It's a mixture of circle and square glitters, this is one coat so you don't have to fish for glitter. I matted it with NYC Matte Me Crazy, I love how the circle glitters look matte.

I think I'm going to try stamping over this glitter, the pieces are big enough that they'd look great peeking out of a lattice design, or maybe lace. Sorry for the tip wear in these pics, I took these on day 2.

Throw some glitter, make it rain

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is use three green/yellow polishes. I went for green, I started with a gradient of Zoya Giovanna, Zoya Stassi, and The Color Workshop Forest. Then I layered on a coat of Crayola Sea Green and a coat of Color Club Go Go Green. I don't know if it's just that I didn't choose polishes that contrasted enough, but I'm just not feeling this mani, it's a little too christmas green for my taste.

What do you lovelies think, a green glittery mess, or is it somehow pretty?

Do you suppose she's a wildflower?

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is rainbows, I wanted to go with something besides the obvious, so I did a subtle rainbow design by painting a rainbow of flowers across my nails! These were all inspired by real flowers, from left to right starting with my thumb, Poppies, Gerbera Daises, Sunflowers, Green Hellebore, and a blue Morning Glory.

I started off with three coats of Revlon Top Speed Cloud, the main color for the poppies was Revlon Parfumerie Bordeaux, Kleancolor Boogie Nights for the daises, Sunflowers are Essence Colour & Go Little Miss Sunrise, Hellebore was a mixture of Color Club Twiggie and La Petite Mint-Sieur, and finally the Morning Glory was done with Color Club Chelsea Girl and Wet n Wild Megalast Violet Attack. I used acrylic paint for a lot of the centers of the flowers and for highlighting.

Thanks for the visit, and leave a comment if you recognize the quote in this post :)

We didn't start the fire

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is fire, and I've been seeing this cute fire girl gif floating around for a couple days, so I did some nail art inspired by her!

I started with a base of Sinful Colors Prosecco, and then added a layer of NYC Top Of The Gold
The flames and girl are a mixture of Wet n Wild Wild Shine Blazed, Sunny Side Up, and NYC Heat Wave. I outlined everything with black acrylic paint and then finished off with topcoat.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme in the 31DC2015 is artwork, these nails are based on these jellyfish murals. I surprised myself with how well these came out, these might be my favorite nails that I've ever painted!
I used a dry brush with hardly any paint on it to get the whispy look of the tentacles, the bodies of the jellies are mostly polish, and the tentacles are mostly acrylic paint.

My base polish for this design is  two coats of Wet n Wild Wild Shine Blue Moon, it's a lovely navy blue with a shimmery finish. I didn't have enough room on my pinkie nail for another jelly, so I painted an abstract little kelp/plant thing.

Nails for my grandma

Hello Lovelies

Tranquility is today's theme, and I felt like that was the little nudge I needed to write this post. My great grandma passed away the 14th, she always liked to hold up my nails to see what new strange thing I'd painted on them, so I wanted to do some nails for her. And since tranquility can also mean being at peace, I felt like this worked pretty well.

Whenever I went out shopping with her we would go to her favorite coffee place, Dutch Brothers, to get mochas. So I painted the little windmill and tulips from their logo on my thumb and pinkie. And pretty much every Thanksgiving she made her special banana creme pie, so I painted a little cartoony one on my index finger. And finally spreading across my middle and ring finger, I painted a necklace, she loved chunky glittery necklaces like that.

My Tallest! My Tallest! Hey! Hey My Tallest! My Tallest?

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is green, I wanted to do some more freehand nail art, so I painted some Invader Zim nails since most of the characters are green!
From left to right, Gir in his dog disguise, Zim, Zim in his human disguise, and regular Gir. And then my thumb is the Irken logo that pops up from time to time in the show.

Invader Zim Nail Art

The green I used as a base for my nail art is Color Club La Petite Mint-Sieur. I alternated between using black acrylic paint and Sinful Colors Black On Black for outlining stuff, but the rest was all done with polish.

Polishes I used:

Color Club Twiggie,
Lotus Herbals Colour Dew Deep Sea,
L.A Colors Color Craze Tropical Breeze,
Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Petal Pusher,
Sinful Colors Snow Me White,
petites Color Fever Seashell & Vintage Gray,

OPI French Quarter For Your Thoughts,
Color Mates Nail Art Lime,
NYC MoMa & Heat Wave,
Revlon Top Speed Cloud,
Poppy Happy Place,
and Wet n Wild Wild Shine Clear Nail Protector.

Holographic dragon scales

Hello Lovelies!

Day 14 of the 31DC2015 is holographic! I used one of my untrieds for this, Color Club Cloud Nine. These nail were inspired by Chalkboard Nails, it's such a simple yet pretty look!

Color Club Cloud Nine Nail Art

I painted the scales with a detail brush and Sinful Colors Black On Black, and then topcoated with Wet n Wild Wild Shine Clear Nail Protector.

This last pic is in the shade, it's a pale pinky lavender when it's out of direct sun.

Day 13 of the 31DC2015 inspired by pinterest!

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is inspired by Pinterest, I picked this pin for today! Usually most of my nail inspiration comes from Pinterest but as of late I haven't been on it much. After I started these I realized it might not of been the smartest thing to do these with my non-dominant hand, my lines didn't come out as nicely as I'd hoped.

pink and black nail art

The pink is China Glaze Seashell and the black is Sinful Colors Black On Black, I used striping tape for the tips and then freehanded the curves. I was able to topcoat this without any smearing though, so that's a success!

Who ya gonna call??

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme in the 31DC2015 is film! I saved this picture ages ago, and it's the perfect inspiration for today's nails! I always thought the Stay Puft marshmallow man was cute in a creepy way, so I focused on the cute with these nails.
I started off with a base of Color Club Mad Batter, it's an off white crelly with black hex and micro glitters. This is two coats, since my nails are so short I didn't have to worry about my nail line showing, but if you have longer nails you'll probably have to do three coats.

Mr. Stay Puft was mostly done with acrylics, the only polish I used on him was for his bow, e.l.f Smokin Hot. Oh and sorry for the weird brown smudges on the back of my fingers, I have some henna on at the moment.

Glitter Base Nails for day 10 of the 31DC2015

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme is a glitter base! I wanted to go with something simple, so I layered Nicole by OPI Sweet Dreams over EN-VY Cuckoo For You for my glitter base.

Then I stamped with Sinful Colors Snow Me White and Pueen 55. I matted it with NYC Matte Me Crazy. I'll post and run, sorry this is such a short post!

Pointed French Tips

Hello Lovelies!

Notice anything different? As you can see, my middle nail is a tad shorter than the rest, that's the one I broke right down to the quick. I wasn't able to patch it so I cut 'em all down because I hate having mismatched nails.
Today's theme is "Red Base", I spent ages trying to figure out some nail art to do, and finally settled with this pointed french tip.

I got this red polish from Walgreens, it was one of those little generic ones they make for Halloween, I mostly got it for the bottle since I thought the rose was cute. I freehanded the black tips with Sinful Colors Black On Black, and matted it with NYC Matte Me Crazy.

Color Club Savoy Nights Monochromatic Nails

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme in the 31DC2015 is monochromatic; I went with a blue color scheme but tried to keep it simple! I started off with a base of NYC In A New York Color Minute Robin's Egg Blue and then topped that with Color Club Savoy Nights. Savoy Nights is a satin blue and silver glitter bomb in a blue tinted jelly base, you might be able to layer it up on it's own, but that's more glitter than I want!

I freehanded a little heart on my middle finger with RGB Minty, it doesn't show up up clearly in the pics because I took these way too late at night with just my desk lamp :/
Yesterday I broke a nail right down to the quick so sadly these are the last long nails you're going to see for a while, I'm rocking nubbins now. Hopefully I'll be able to grow them back to my long almonds!

Pink and aqua skull & crossbones

Hello Lovelies!

Day 7 of the 31DC2015 is pink & aqua! I've had this glitter topper hanging around since halloween, I picked it up on clearance at Rite Aid.
I'm kind of glad I got this on sale now, it pretty to look at, but a total pain in the neck. I spent forever fishing glitters out of the bottle and then after all that work they wouldn't lay flat and "taco-ed" up, but that's what I get from cheapie halloween clearance polishes. The bottle is cute though, it's shaped like a pumpkin and has a jack o' lantern face.

Black ringed crelly nails

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme in the 31DC2015 is half and half. I decided to take that literally and came up with this! I started by painting half of my nail with Model's Own Magpie and then the other half with Pink Ice by Rue21. And since those two polishes are pretty close to each other in color, I separated the two with a black line down the middle of each nail, and then I rimmed the entire nail too.

The used Sinful Colors Black On Black for the outlining, and topped it off with Wet n Wild Wild Shine Clear Nail Protector.
