Guest post from Marisa a.k.a Hey, Darling Polish!

Hello darlings!

I'm super excited to be blogging for Alexandria today! I love writing guest posts for people but I have to admit that this was the first time that someone reached out to me about posting for them. It definitely put a smile on my face so hopefully this post will put a smile on yours!

A little bit about me, my name is Marisa and I run the blog Hey, Darling Polish! I love patterns and having colorful nails. And guess what I have for you guys today! Patterns and colorful nails! (:

Onto the nails!

nails, nail art, nail polish, freehand, guest post, hey darling polish, pattern, floral, blue

Here's what I used:

I asked Alexandria what her favorite colors were and she said she likes anything mint, pastel, or glitter-y. And I didn't do any of that....whoops...haha! I mean the base is kind of pastel-y, a little bright but it's a pretty color. The design was inspired by this pattern.

nails, nail art, nail polish, freehand, guest post, hey darling polish, pattern, floral, blue

These nails started with 2 coats of Take Me To Your Chateau and a layer of Seche Vite. Then using acrylic paint I painted on the pattern. I started with the white flowers and built the other elements up around them. When everything was dry, I added another coat of Seche Vite.

I'm so happy with how these nails turned out! I haven't done nail art in close to a week but I think these nails gave me my mojo back haha (:

Thanks for having me Alexandria and I hope everyone enjoyed reading this post!

-Marisa! (:

I love the little raindrops and all the colors you used Marisa! Thanks so much for guesting here at A girl and her chicken named Betty :)

Guest post from Batmomo a.k.a Pokenailart

Hello everyone ! I'm Batmomo from the blog Pok√©nailart. I am extremely happy that Alexandria offered me the opportunity to show you a bit of my world ! :p

So, the manicure that I did for you was inspired by my all-time favourite anime, Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo ! In this anime, bald men have taken control of the world, and want to shave everybody's hair, but Bobobo- fights against them !

The humor in this anime is really special, so I guess it's not for everybody. During his fight, Bobobo- regularly dresses as a girl, for unknown reasons, and that's how I wanted to paint him. I also drew flowers, stars and hearts, because that's what you can see in the background when he's fighting dressed as a girl... haha
I hope you'll like this weird manicure !

Bye everyone !

Thanks so much Batmomo, these nails certainly gave me a laugh :) Check out her blog Pokenailart here, she has a ton of awesome anime nail art, and about everything else under the sun!

Guest post from Dani a.k.a Dani's Manis

Hi everyone! Dani here! I am super excited to be guest blogging today, I think this is the first guest post I've ever done! At first I was worried I wouldn't be able to come up with anything good nail art wise as my muse has been on vacation lately, but then I remembered that Doctor Who is back. Problem solved! All I did for this one was let my inner whovian loose on my nails. After three or four failed attempts at other Doctor Who things, I had success with this TARDIS in the clouds!

I ended up using Pahlish – Over the Rhone(Bespoke Batch) as a base, it seemed like the perfect choice for a night sky look. The flakies in it do a great job resembling stars if you ask me, hahaha. The rest of the nail art stuff was done with 4 colors of acrylic paint(white, black, royal blue, and periwinkle).

I won't say too much about Doctor Who because I'd like to keep it spoiler free for y'all in case you haven't had a chance to watch yet, but I will say that I think Peter Capaldi is going to be a fantastic Doctor, and I can't wait to see what this season has in store for him!

If you want to check out some of my other nail art/read more of my ramblings, you can visit my blog at http://danismanis.wordpress.com, my instagram at www.instagram.com/danilouwho, or my tumblr at http://danilouwho.tumblr.com

Thanks for reading! <3

I still haven't been able to watch the new episode, somehow I forgot to record it! But these nails make me feel better, haha. Thanks so much for guesting Dani!

Guest post from Ina a.k.a My Nail Polish Online

Hi, I'm Ina from My Nail Polish Online and I'm here with a guest post while Alexandria is on a trip having a good time :)

I want to show you today a nail art based on a gradient done with a couple of Kiko polishes that I've bought on my vacation this year. The gradient is actually done for my work in progress "Basic Nail Art Techniques and how to combine them" that will be out September 1st. I started the gradient with one coat of the beautiful Kiko - 389 Mint Milk and used Kiko - 336 Electric Blue for the tips. I love how these two colors are going together and I find these kind of colors very summer-y!

I love gradients and I love wearing gradients but when I was done with this one I just wanted to continue adding something more to these colors! Gold is always a favorite when it comes to combining aqua with other colors so I did gold flowers randomly on the nails. For the gold I've used ORLY - Luxe. The black dots in the middle of the flowers are painted with Nordic Cap NP12.

Thanks for reading and thank you Alexandria for having me guestposting on your blog! I hope you're enjoying your trip!

Thank you Ina, those flowers look gorgeous, they almost look like flakes of real gold! Be sure to click over to Ina's blog My Nail Polish Online and give her some love :)

Guest post from Jessica a.k.a Be Happy And Buy Polish

Good morning, all of you wonderful readers! I'm happy to be guest-posting here today on A girl and her chicken named Betty. My name is Jessica and I blog over at Be Happy And Buy Polish. I've been blogging for about a year and a half now, and I really enjoy doing nail art and playing with pretty nail polish (who doesn't, amirite?).

For my guest post today, I asked Alexandria what colors she liked so I could create a manicure especially for her. She shared that she really likes mint, which I am loving right now too, and so I've created this nail art look:

I was inspired by a cake design I found through Cake Wrecks' Sunday Sweets (scroll down to the cake by Bellaria Cakes Design). I've used Sinful Colors Snow Me White, Cool Gray; China Glaze Be More Pacific (minty green), Sun Upon My Skin (yellow), Aquadelic (green-blue), and Wait n' Sea (blue). Besides the stripes (which I've used striping tape for), this is completely freehanded.

I hope you enjoyed my nail art today! Please leave me a comment, I'd love to know what you thought. You can catch me at my blog, Be Happy And Buy Polish; also on Facebook, twitter, instagram, and tumblr.

Wow Jessica your freehand is amazing! I just love these colors together <3 Be sure to check out Jessica's blog to see more of her fabulous nail art!

Guest post from Debbie a.k.a WonderfulWolf

Hello Lovelies!

I have a super crazy week ahead of me and won't be able to blog much, so I decided to interrupt your usual blog experience with some guest posts written by some of my favorite nail art ladies!
___________________________________________________

So hello! I'm Debbie, aka WonderfulWolf, and I like to paint my nails. I found Alexandria's blog through the OMD2 challenge and when I saw her nails I knew I had to follow her.

I've never written a guest post before, so I couldn't believe it when she contacted me to write one for her! Alexandria gave me free reign on what I could do nail art wise so I took inspiration from the nail art she paints - I think she paints bright, bold, and also pretty. So I tried to incorporate these factors in what I created.

I used three pastel colours to keep it simple and fresh. I used my hole-punch re-enforcers to get those nice clean curves and then I used a matte top coat because I thought it looked funkier!

It's been super guest posting - I hope you liked it, and thanks again to Alexandria!

These are so pretty Debbie! Thanks so much for guesting :) You should all check out Debbie's blog WonderfulWolf, she posts just amazing nail art, you can also check out her facebook page here.

Stars and Stripes

Hello Lovelies!

I just cosplayed Nyotalia America and I had to do some patriotic nail art to go with it! I was contemplating trying to freehand the outline of the usa across my nails and have Hawaii and Alaska on my thumb, but I was running short of time and went with some stamping instead.

I used Wistonia plate 107 for all the stamping, my base for the stripes is Ulta let the flames begin, and the thumb is Wet n Wild french white creme. I stamped the stars with Wet n Wild megalast violet attack, and the stripes with Konad white.

And here's a pic of my outfit, I found a Uncle Sam graffiti alongside some train tracks to pose in front of with a fellow Hetalia cosplayer (she's cosplaying as Prussia) :)

Adovia day cream review

Hello Lovelies!

I have a review for you today, this is Adovia's moisturizing day cream.

The packaging says it has dead sea minerals, aloe vera, chamomile, and that all skin types can use it. It comes in a super thick glass jar, and the cream itself is very thick, almost like a mousse. I've used it for a couple days, morning and night, and it's very moisturizing and not greasy at all, it also soaks in pretty fast.

The one and only thing I don't like about it is the scent, it smells very strongly of soap. The scent goes away after a while, but I have a weird pet peeve about it; you know how authors love to include in the descriptions of their male characters that they smell of ivory soap? I've always hated strong soapy smells, and I mentally just want to smack these authors like "Yes we know they bathe like human beings, could we be a bit more creative?". Anyways, besides that I really like this cream, and I see myself continuing to use it.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Finger Paints Tails of Love swatches and review

Hello Lovelies!

I went into Sally's a couple days ago because I heard they were having an awesome clearance sale, sadly it was only on the weekend, but I did pick up this pretty polish! This is Finger Paints Tails of Love, I actually didn't know it was a texture polish when I first got it, I just saw the color and went "I need that"!

This is two coats of Tails of Love, it's from the 2014 Enchanted Mermaid collection. The color really reminds me of Wet n Wild's bijou blue, I used it as a base in this mani. I really like the fish scale feel to these, with full blown texture polish I always feel like they're going to catch on things, but since these are only a little bit rough I can deal with it.
I've read a ton of bad reviews of these polishes, and how their application was terrible, but I had no problems whatsoever. It took a while to dry all the way, but was dry enough to touch after five minutes.
I probably won't get any of the other polishes in the Enchanted Mermaid collection, I mostly got this because I thought the blue was really pretty and didn't look similar to any other polishes I'd seen before.

Fun fair nails

Hello Lovelies!

My aunt had free tickets to the county fair so I had to do some nails for the trip!

I didn't see all of these games so I wasn't able to get pics with them, but I got some nice shots in spite of that! I have goldfish on my index for the penny tossing game, ducks on my middle for the shooting games, coke bottles with tossing rings on my ring finger, the strength tester on my pinkie, and a dunk tank on my thumb!

My dunk tank didn't come out quite like I hoped, I think adding the cage around my stick figure muddled it up.

Found this cutie in one of the huge barns, rabbits are surprisingly hard to get non-blurry pictures of, haha.

Even though it was pretty warm, there were some gorgeous clouds drifting over the fair grounds and I was able to take these for my sky pic blog.

Feliciano and Romano

Hello Lovelies!

I've been wanting to use the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum stamp from W114 for a while, last time I used that plate they stamped ok, but I wasn't totally satisfied with it. The only way I could think of to use both of these stamps at the same time was to do some Italy nails! Italy from Hetalia that is.

I freehanded North Italy holding a piece of pizza on my index finger, South Italy holding a tomato on my middle, stamped on my ring and pinkie, and freehanded the Hetalia logo which is just the outline of the country with the words Hetalia over it in kanji. I was really proud of my Italy outline but the kanji ended up covering most of it, haha.

I started with a base of e.l.f Desert Haze for all my nails except my thumb, it's a lovely creme nude taupe that's totally opaque in two coats. This is the first time I've used this polish and I really love it, I think it'll be a great base for nail art since the color won't distract from whatever design you're creating on top of it.

Polishes I used:

Wet n Wild Wild Shine Clear Nail Protector and French White Creme,
Color Mates Nail Art Black and Cocoa,
Wet n Wild Fergie Ferga-colada,
China Glaze Def-defying,
Jesse's Girl Center Stage and Running Wild,
NYC In a New York Color Minute Sidewalkers,
Ulta Let The Flames Begin,
Wet n Wild Megalast Sugar Coat,
Essence Colour & Go Peach and Cream,
Lotus Herbals Colour Dew Gold Mist,
Petites color fever Seashell,
Sephora by OPI G-listen to Your Heart,
Elle 18 Nail Pops 19,
white acrylic paint,
a dotting tool,
and a striping brush.

Bollywood nails with China Glaze seashell

Hello Lovelies!

This week's theme in Adventures in Stamping is Bollywood! After seeing how elaborate the costumes in Bollywood movies are I knew I needed to up my stamping game! I've been dying to use the stamp on my thumb for ages, and I finally had the right nail shape to squeeze it on! I started by creating a gradient for my base, the first polish I used was China Glaze seashell, I actually recently got that in the mail because I won Makeup With a Heart's giveaway a couple weeks ago!

Seashell is a creamy peach pink and I only had to use two coats, I was surprised that I was able to only do two coats and not have my nail line show at all. For the other polishes in my gradient, I used Wet n Wild Megalast Candy-licious and NYC in a new york color minute Heat Wave.

I had to get a bit creative with my stamping, I ran out of my usual black polish so I ended up using a nail art striper, but it all worked out! All the stamping was done with Color Mates Nail Art Black and Pueen plates 70 and 56. After topcoating I used a singe piece of glitter to make a bindi on the woman's forehead.

Yipes Stripes!

Hello Lovelies!

This Week's theme in the Golden Oldie Thursday challenge is stripes! I haven't done a colorful gradient for a while, and I've been sticking to my neutrals lately, so I grabbed some bright hues and started sponging!

All the polishes I used today are NYC in a new york color minute, I started with two coats of Robin's Egg Blue for the base of my gradient. I used a sponge and Water Street Blue + MoMa to create my gradient, instead of heavily saturating my sponge with polish like I usually do, I went with a lighter hand so I ended up with this water color effect.
I used a striping brush and white acrylic paint for the stripes, I alternated the stripe directions on each nail to keep the pattern from looking repetitive.

How to lose a guy in 10 days

Hello Lovelies!

I'm jumping into the Llama nails challenge once again, and this week's theme is inspired by a romance movie or book!

How to lose a guy in 10 days is one of my favorite rom coms, it's about Andie Anderson who works at the magazine Composure and is assigned an article to write, How to lose a guy in 10 days, but here's the catch, she's the guinea pig! And it just so happens that Benjamin Barry has made a bet with his boss that he can make any woman fall in love with him in 10 days. It's a really funny movie with a ton of great quotes which I tried to include in my nail art!

My index finger reads "All's fair in love & war", middle is "You're so vain", ring says "Frost yourself" and I stamped some diamonds, pinkie is the love fern, and I lettered "How to lose a guy in 10 days on my thumb". I would of loved to do a Sleepless in Seattle nail, since that played a part in the movie, but I couldn't find any good posters to inspire a nail design. And I have a great stamping image of the space needle, but somehow I lost it the minute I thought of a way to actually use it!

My base is Pure Ice home run, and I used a striping brush for all the lettering and the fern. I stamped with BM09 and Pure Ice A-list, the purple lettering is Rue Beaute! unnamed, the dark blue is Orly star of bombay, and the pink on my thumb is Wet n Wild megalast candy-licious.

Other polishes I used:

Wet n Wild Wild Shine french white creme,
China Glaze def defying,
CQ golden green,
and Wet n Wild Wild Shine clear nail protector.

Body Merry under eye lotion review

Hello Lovelies!

I have a quick review for you guys today, this is Body Merry's under eye cream!

This cream claims to reduce dark circles, puffiness, and hydrate skin. It also says you can use it as an all over face lotion, but it has a high oil content, so I'm hesitant to use it all over because the oil might cause me to break out. It doesn't feel greasy on your skin though, it soaks in really fast, and a little goes a long way since it smooths on so easily.

It comes in a little plastic container with a pump, the picture below is how much comes out in one pump, but half of that amount is more than enough for both eyes. Even though it's a small container, since you only have to use an infinitesimal amount, I think this will last for quite a while. It felt very moisturizing on my skin, and it didn't cause any problems when I applied my normal eye makeup over it afterwards. It has a unique smell to it though, a sort of herbal smell that I really enjoy. I expect that's from all the different oils in it, it has coconut, rose hip, green tea, macadamia, and primrose oils in it along with a bunch of others, to see the whole list click here.
