FFTB ferga-colada & fuzz-sea

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme in the Finger Food's Theme Buffet is neon so I got to swatch some of those polishes I bought from Big Lots a couple weeks ago! This is Wet n Wild Fergie ferga-colada and Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat fuzz-sea. Ferga-colada is a super opaque creamy neon yellow, it went on fabulously and I really love the brush it came with, I love the thicker brushes that take less swipes to cover the nail.

Fuzz-sea has yellow and blue bar glitters in a clear base, I had to shake it a couple times in between nails because the glitters would settle and I'd only get base, but besides that it went on fine. I'm still not sure what I think of this type of polish, it's interesting for sure, and I'll probably use it in some nail art that needs a weird finish.

Ferga-colada took it's time drying, but that might be the thick layer of topcoat and Fuzz-sea's fault. I like these two together, but for some reason the color scheme reminds me of fish stick packaging? My mind goes weird places where color is involved, haha.

GOT age of aquarius gradient

Hello Lovelies!

This week's GOT theme is gradients! I had a bunch of blue polishes still out from my last mani, so I just grabbed a couple more glitter and dark blue polishes, and came up with this! I started out with two coats of a dusty blue base, Color Club age of aquarius. Then I just layered all my polishes on a sponge and started sponging!

After I got the gradient where I wanted it I added a super thin layer of Revlon whimsical, it has a milky blue base so it helped blend all the colors together and the glitters in it went nicely with everything else.
I used Wet n Wild fast dry violet attack as my darkest shade, but I only ended up getting a bit on my thumb and middle finger, I think I spread my colors out too thick on my sponge so I didn't get them all on my shorter nails.

Other polishes I used:

Wet n Wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop base coat,
Sally Girl brainy,
Wet n Wild fast dry teal of fortune,
NYC in a new york color minute water street blue,
and a sponge.

TPC striped vintage bows

Hello Lovelies!

Today is the last Tri-Polish challenge day of the month, I used all three colors in my nails today! I think I've done a mani similar to this one in the past, but I couldn't find the post. I started with two coats of Wet n Wild megalast sugar coat, and then I used a striping brush to stripe Color Club age of aquarius and Sally Girl brainy down the nails. The bows were done with Wet n Wild wild shine blazed and Wet n Wild wild shine black creme, I used a dotting tool for the center of the bows and a detail brush for everything else.

I'm relieved to be rid of this set of colors, it's not easy to combine turquoise, nude, and coral!

AIS boats and birds inspired nails

Hello Lovelies!

I have some song inspired nail art for you guys today, the latest theme in the AIS Stamping Sunday challenge is music nails since yesterday was World Music Day. I've been listening to Boats and Birds by Gregory and the Hawk non-stop lately so it was easy to pick a song for this!

These are more inspired by the vibe and tone I get from the song rather than literal interpretations from the lyrics, but I did try to incorporate some of the lyrics. I stamped a moon and stars on my thumb and then freehanded a little boat floating underneath, I stamped some butterflies on my index, I did a galaxy design on my middle, stamped some wavy abstract blue designs on my ring and threw some glitter in for good measure, and finally stamped some stars on my pinkie although they didn't show up that clearly in my pictures.

Here's the polishes I used:

Wet n Wild wild shine clear nail protector,
EN-VY blue my mind,
Wet n Wild megalast violet attack,
Black Heart Beauty holo lv stck,
Nicole by OPI sweet dreams,
Sally Girl brainy,
Revlon whimsical,
Color Club first look,
Wet n Wild fast dry teal of fortune,
Pure Ice A-list,
Wet n Wild wild shine french white creme,
Jordana boy oh boy,
Wistonia W107,
Shany SH23 & SH08,
and BundleMonster BM09.

And here's the song so you can hear what inspired me to do these:

DIY summer lip balm tutorial

Hello Lovelies!

I get chapped lips all the time so I'm always applying and re-applying chapstick throughout the day, and I've yet to find a lip balm that's moisturizing and a pretty shade so I decided to go ahead and make some myself!

I made two pots of lipgloss with some old lipstick I hadn't touched in ages, I used L.A Colors charmed and Wet n Wild 514A, I think the WnW had a name but they didn't put it on the tube so I couldn't find it.

I started by putting about an 1/8 of teaspoon of lipstick in a saucepan with about 3 tablespoons of petroleum jelly. Your measurements don't have to be precise at all with this, so if you want the color to be stronger just add more lipstick or use less jelly. I used petroleum jelly with cocoa butter which gave my lip balm a nice scent but you can also just use the plain kind.

I heated this up on low and used a toothpick to swirl it around and get everything mixed up thoroughly, this melts very very fast, less than thirty seconds, so don't leave it alone on the stove!

After I got everything melted I poured the mixture into some plastic tubs, I had an old mini body butter tub from B&BW's and for the other batch I used a travel container.

Then I just popped them in the fridge for a few minutes to firm up the mixture, and Voila! This is great if you need a specific shade of gloss to layer on top of a lipstick, or if you have a lipstick that's just a bit too bright for you but you still like the color.

Big Lots haul and Sally Hansen Sugar Coat pink sprinkle swatches

Hello Lovelies!

I hadn't stalked the Big Lots makeup section in ages so I swung by yesterday and found all these awesome polishes! I got two Sally Hansen Fuzzy Coat polishes and four Sally Hansen Sugar Coats, I've heard lots of good things about their textured polishes, and since they were only a buck a pop I had to pick them up!

I'm swatching Sally Hansen Sugar Coat pink sprinkle for today, it surprised me how sparkly it is, in the bottle it only has a slight shimmer to it. It has little amber and dark pink glitters in it, I haven't tried any of the new Zoya bubbly polishes but this really reminds me of them from all the swatches I've seen. This is three coats, it had a couple bald patches on the second otherwise I would've of left it there.
I've never had a textured polish push and pull around during application like this one, it wasn't bad overall I've just always had great luck with how easy textured polishes are to put on.

I'm looking forward to swatching the rest of my mini haul, I think I've seen people stamp with texture before so I might give that a go! I'm linking up with this month's Challenge Your Nail Art, today's theme is bright colors! And I'm also doing the Golden Oldie Challenge, today was free choice.

TPC the night has a thousand eyes

Hello Lovelies!

I think these are some of the creepier nails I've done lately, maybe I should of done them for Friday the 13th instead? They were inspired by these nails I found a while back on Pinterest, the color scheme is perfect for this month's Tri-Polish challenge! I used different polishes from last time, my coral is Wet n Wild wild shine blazed, and my turquoise is Wet n Wild megalast I need a refresh-mint. I started with a base of white and then used the bottle brush of the coral to freehand the half moons. The nice thing about this design is you end up outlining everything in black so you don't have to worry about having neat lines!

I think these would look fantastic in purple, maybe in a Welcome to the Night Vale mani?

Other polishes I used:

Wet n Wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n Wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n Wild wild shine french white creme,
a dotting tool,
and a detail brush.

GOT summer strawberries

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme in the Golden Oldie Challenge is a simpler one than usual, red! I started with two coats of Wet n Wild wild shine french white creme, a coat of N.Y.C kisses to soften the white, and then started the strawberries with The Color Workshop lady luck. I used a detail brush to freehand triangles all over my nails, and then I curved the edges of the triangles to make them more strawberry shaped.

I used an unnamed Wet n Wild beauty benefits for the green stems, and then I used a detail brush to carefully dot small white specks on the berries for their seeds. And finally I just dotted lady luck in any bare spots between the berries to finish the design. I finished up with a nice coat of Wet n Wild wild shine clear nail protector, it's actually meant to be used as a base coat, but I find it works great as a topcoat and usually won't smear your nail art!

TPC coral dream cloud mani

Hello Lovelies!

This month's theme in the Tri-Polish challenge is nude/turquoise/coral. I went with a cloud mani since I haven't done one in a while, and I think this is actually the best one I've ever done! The polishes I chose are e.l.f coral dream, Essence Nude Glam peach and cream, and Jordana boy oh boy.

Layering the blue over the coral made it look way darker so it doesn't pop as much as I thought it would, but I like the sort of vintage feel these have.

L'oreal Miss Manga Voluminous Mascara review

Hello Lovelies!

I'm reviewing the L'oreal miss manga voluminous mascara today in the shade blackest black, I picked it up from Wal-Mart for around six dollars. I first saw the display a couple of weeks ago and my interest was piqued by the packaging, but I try not to buy products (especially makeup), just for the pretty packaging so I left without buying it. But after reading a couple positive reviews on it I went ahead and got it, I used this 1.00 off coupon from L'oreal's website, which anyone can snag.

This is their new 360 flexor brush, it's shaped a bit like a christmas tree and is super bendy, but not enough to make application a hassle. The shape of the brush makes catching the smaller lashes near the inside corner of your eye much easier and it works great on the lower lashes as well. I only have two coats on in the picture below, I have naturally long lashes so I try not to go too heavy on the mascara because I'm not a fan of spidery lashes.

It feels very light on the eyes even though it extends your lashes quite a bit, and it washes off very easily. The only complaint I have is the end of the brush gets a bit overloaded with product but that's easily wiped off on the inside of the tube.

Here's the rest of the eye-makeup I wore that day, everything I used is by e.l.f, I've had wonderful luck with all their makeup and they have fantastic prices too!

How I Met Your Magenta cocktail mani

Hello Lovelies!

I have two themes to work with today, there's a purple and pink theme for AIS and a cocktail mani theme in the Finger Food's Theme Buffet. I pulled out an untried for this one, the pink is Wet n Wild Fast Dry how I met your magenta. This is a rather strange polish, it took three coats and is a super watery mix between a shimmer polish and a jelly. And it's by no means a fast drying polish so I don't really understand why it's in the Fast Dry line. But besides that, it's a nice polish with a interesting almost matte finish. I ended up covered most of it up with my stamping, it's a hot pink almost salmon pink with a slight shimmer.

I layered Wet n Wild Wild Shine sparked and L.A splash love crush on the accent nails and then stamped with Konad white and Shany plate SH21. My ring and pinkie also have sparked, and the base  is Ruebeaute! purple layered.

Happy Doughnut Day!

Hello Lovelies!

Happy doughnut day! I thought I'd celebrate by doing some doughnut nail art, and I think I went the extra mile with this one! I haven't watched The Simpsons in ages, but they did do that awesome short with all those Ghibli easter eggs a while back.
I bought a new paintbrush to use for nail art a couple days ago and this was my first time using it, I'm pretty happy with it, and it was only three bucks so it all worked out wonderfully! I used a dotting tool for Homer's eyes but besides that it was all done with a brush. I used black acrylic paint to outline everything, and all the other colors are polishes.

Polishes I used:

Wet n Wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n Wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n Wild wild shine lavender creme,
Essence Colour & Go little miss sunrise,
L.A colors color craze unnamed,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Petites color fever vintage gray,

GOT deep sea shattered glass

Hello Lovelies!

Today's theme in the Golden Oldie Thursday's challenge is silver accents! I was killing time doing my nails a couple days ago and decided to switch from squared tips to almonds, and I'm really liking it! They feel a lot stronger and I think they look much better on me that the squared tips ever did.

Since I haven't done any light blue nails in ages, I started with a base of Lotus Herbals Colour Dew deep sea and used  L.A girl polka dot on my ring finger. I stamped the shattered glass image with Shany plate SH22 over all my nails, it turned out really striking on my ring finger! I'm already planning on some nails using that silver, and it's perfect with only two coats, so I'm really loving it.

May book list

Hello Lovelies!

I love telling you guys what I'm reading in my weekly wrap ups so I've decided to start doing posts at the end of every month re-capping all the books I've read in the previous month! I'll link to the Goodreads page for each book so you can find out more about them if you want to.

I actually listened to the audio book version of this, I'd leave it running while browsing blogs and it works out pretty slick for me! I didn't love this, but it wasn't terrible either, Austen's books tend to be a little dull for my taste.

Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
This was the first book I'd read by Kurt Vonnegut and I enjoyed it thoroughly, his writing style is actually very witty even though he's writing about such a dark topic. Crash Course on YouTube did a two part video course on the books a couple of weeks ago that really helped me to understand the background of the book and when it was written, if you're planning on reading it, give them a watch!

Unnatural Creatures edited by Neil Gaiman
This is a collection of short stories edited by Neil Gaiman, but don't worry he has one in there too! Short story collections usually elicit mixed opinions from me, I'll zip through a couple that I really enjoy and then have to slog through a less exciting tale to get back to the good stuff. But that certainly wasn't the case with this book, I wholeheartedly loved each and every story in this. From cartographer wasps to sentient ink blots, this collection has you covered!

Why We Broke Up by Daniel Handler
Now this one has a bit of a complicated story as to how I ended up reading it, I've always been a fan of Lemony Snicket's books (aka Daniel Handler), and I recently found out he had also written some books under his real name. I looked up a couple, reserved them from the library, and promptly forgot about them. I was watching a It'sWayPastMyBedtime video a while ago and she very strongly recommended Why We Broke Up and absolutely raved about it, so I picked it up to read. I thought I recognized the author, looked him up, and found out, "Hey it's that Lemony Snicket guy!" Anyways it's a fantastic book, and surprisingly has a lot of pictures in it!

Reflections on the Magic of Writing by Dianna Wynne Jones
Dianna Wynne Jones is one of my favorite authors, I found her work after reading the book that the Studio Ghibli movie Howl's Moving Castle was based on. This is a collection of speeches, essays, short stories, and stories from her childhood. She had a fantastic way of looking at writing and getting through any problems you could possibly come across, even though I haven't done much writing myself, I found it very helpful!

Canary in a Cat House by Kurt Vonnegut
I picked this up shortly after reading Slaughter House Five, it's a collection of short stories. They all have a strange almost twilight-zone feel to them, and they've aged wonderfully! I don't really have much to say about this one, but you should give it a try!

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor
This is the sequel to Daughter of Smoke and Bone, which I read a couple of months ago. This is a wonderful fantasy novel set in the Czech Republic about a girl caught in a war between angels and beasts in different dimensions. I can't say much about this without spoiling the first book, but it's a wonderful sequel and I'm looking forward to reading the next one asap! And it's 500 plus pages which made me happy :)

AIS & FFTB summery stamping

Hello Lovelies!

Today's AIS theme is Summer! And it's also Under the Sea in the FFTB, this was thrown together at the last minute since this theme snuck up on me, so sorry if it looks a little jumbled! I used the same base that I used in my last mani, picture polish frosting by Cosmetic Cupcake.

One of the things I'm most looking forward to now that it's warming up, is going swimming and hitting the beach so I stamped a bunch of beachy things all over my nails. I used Wistonia plate W106 and and Bundle Monster plate BM01. I have a little crab on my pinkie, a bikini and flip flops on my ring, some sunglasses and a beachball on my middle, a different bikini on my index, and a sun on my thumb since things are heating up!

Other polishes I used:

Wet n Wild wild shine black creme,
Konad red,
Wet n Wild megalast I need a refresh-mint,
Wet n Wild megalast candy-licious,
Ruebeaute! unnamed,
and Wet n Wild wild shine clear nail protector.
