FFTB Mother's day nail art

Hi girls!

It's the very last day of the Finger Food's Theme Buffet already! It's mother's day in England and today's theme is the same! I did my mom's nails for the occasion and since she's a die-hard quilter I did some sewing nail art.

I started with a base of blue and then used a detailing brush to paint a running stitch down her nails, and I used the same brush to paint a black threaded needle on each of her thumb nails. I finished it off by matting it, I think matted glitter lasts much longer on the nail than if you used a normal shiny top coat.

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Color Mates little blue box,
Revlon whimsical,
Jordana boy oh boy,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
NYC matte me crazy,
and a detailing brush.

GOT Soul Eater Medusa nail art

Hi girls!

It's the very last day of the Golden Oldie Thursdays challenge and today's theme is yellow/peach. I've been favoring my peach polishes lately so I decided to go with yellow, and I've actually been wanting to do these for a couple months. These are inspired by an anime called Soul Eater, specifically the character Medusa. She has black nails with yellow arrows, and I rarely see anime characters with nail art so I knew I had to try to replicate them!

After painting my nails black, I outlined the arrows in a white polish, filled them in with white, and then went over the top with yellow. I probably could of just done the arrows in the yellow polish, but layering nail art over white really makes colors pop!

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
NYC black lace creme,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
L.A colors color craze sea shell,
and a detailing brush.

Pink Wednesdays glittering hearts

Hi girls!

I'm in a bit of a rush today, so today's post is a quick one! I haven't done pink nails for a while, well at least Pink Wednesday nails so that's what I went for this morning. This is a really lovely pale bubblegum pink IRL, but for some reason it photographs salmon, I've tried with flash, no flash, sunlight, everything, but it refuses to co-operate!

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Essence nude glam peach and cream (I've been using this polish a lot lately!),
Wet n wild megalast sugarcoat,
Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet,
Sephora by OPI flurry up!,
NYC matte me crazy,
and a detailing brush.

Saturday on the sea shore

Hi girls!

I went down to Devil's Punch Bowl outside Otter Rock last week with some friends and I managed to get some pictures of my new jumper, I bought it at a bookstore of all places! My family has gone to this bookstore off and on for quite a few years, and my mom told me she saw this jumper in the very back of the store almost eighteen years ago! I guess it was just waiting for me to come along and snatch it up :) The jumper was 9.50, and it was a bit a gamble since I had no idea what it would look like on me, but it turned out to be a great buy!

Although it was a little breezy, it was actually pretty warm so we hung out around the beach for a couple hours, I just love poking around all the tide pools and seeing all the sea-life!

FFTB Freestyle: Glittery Bows

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Finger Foods Theme Buffet is freestyle, and I've been wanting to try out these nails that Hey, Darling Polish! did for the cute theme a couple weeks back. I loved how she nestled the bows on the top of the nail, so I tweaked the colors a bit and came up with this!

I started with a base of Essence nude glam peach cream and then alternated Revlon whimsical and Sephora by OPI lights, glammera, action! every other nail for some sparkle. I freehanded the bows in petites Color Fever vintage gray, and then outlined then using a striping brush and Wet n wild wild shine french white creme. To finish I matted the nails with NYC matte me crazy, I just love the look of matted glitter!

GOT ruffle gradient french tips

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Golden Oldie Thursdays challenge is ruffles! I think I used more polishes in this mani than any other in the challenge, I used eleven if you count base and top coat!
Last time I tried a ruffle mani it didn't come out that well, but I've had more practice with my dotting tool since then and I'm very pleased with how these came out.

I'm especially happy with my thumb so I had to take a close up shot of that nail. I started with a thin coat of a sheer lavender polish and then just went crazy with the dotting tool! For some reason my white polish smeared horribly when I put top coat on my right hand, so I let my left dry for a couple minutes before top coating. I wasn't planning on the white tips when I started, but I really like the subtle gradient french tip look.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine lavender creme,
Wet n wild wild shine tickled pink,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
NYC sheer french kisses,
Lotus Herbals colour dew pink lustre,
Wet n wild megalast candy-licious,
Wet n wild megalast sugar coat,
Essence nude glam peach and cream,
and a dotting tool.

FOTD St. Patrick's Day

Hi girls and happy St. Patrick's day!

I don't usually do anything for St. Patrick's day, but I got a sudden urge to do some green eye-makeup this morning. I rarely wear green eyeshadow since it usually just makes me look like I have two black eyes, but I think it turned out nicely this time. I used the hundred shade eyeshadow pallet from elf, I picked it up in January for half off in a Christmas clearance at Big-Lots. When I got it I distinctly remember thinking to myself "I'm never going to use those green shades", but I guess I stand corrected! I also used an elf liquid liner in black, and the lipstick is Wet n Wild 514A cherry frost.

Finger Food Theme Buffet St. Patrick's day

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Finger Foods theme buffet is St. Patrick's day! I was all set to do some shamrock nails, but as I was pulling together my stuff I realized I was just going to re-create what I did last year, so I decided to do something a bit more subtle, an Irish green stamped design!

My base is RueBeaute! nail deco, I swatched it ages ago but haven't really used it since. It dries matte and very fast, I didn't have to wait long at all before stamping my vines with Rimmel London 60 seconds camouflage. SH21 is the plate I used, I really love this image, it's so versatile. If you want some reading to get you in the Irish spirit for tomorrow, I just finished Round Ireland with a Fridge by Tony Hawks and it's a fantastic story about a young man hitch hiking round Ireland on a 100 pound bet, it's a great read!

Pie day nail art

Hi girls!

It's pie day! The mathematical variety not the pastry, but I thought pastry nail art would be more appreciated so, tada! Cherry pie nail art!

It doesn't look like it, but I actually used ten different polishes for this, all the shading I painted on the crust took a lot of different shades of peach and gold.
I started with a base of red and painted the cherries over that, then I highlighted some of them with a mixture of red and white polish. My crust ended up thicker than I planned so all that detail I put into the cherries was kind of wasted. I used a striping brush for the crust, highlighted some of the edges with a sheer gold polish, and then dotted some more red over the exposed base to show more of the cherries.
The pie was done with a striping brush and then I used a dotting tool to dot the filling in, it actually was easier to do than the crust nails!

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Lotus Herbals colour dew gold mist,
Petites color fever sea shell,
Essence nude glam peach cream,
Wet n wild wild shine blazed,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Sally Hansen 10 day no chip surely ivory,
a dotting tool,
and a striping brush.

Okay? Okay.

Hi girls!

I haven't done a monday blues post in ages, and I've been wanting to do some nerdfighter/fault in our stars nail art for a while, and suddenly I realized, "Hey that's blue!". Anyways, these are a little random so I think some explaining is required. My thumb is short for "Don't forget to be awesome" which is a little saying from the Vlogbrothers channel on YouTube, my index is the nerdfighters gang sign (click here for explanation), middle nail is from the actual book The Fault in Ours Stars, ring is short for The Fault in Our Stars, and finally the pinkie is a hanklerfish (explanation for that here).

I only read the Fault in Our Stars a couple weeks ago, I heard that a movie is being made of it and I always try to read the books before watching the movie. Anyways, I highly recommend reading the book, it's really sweet, clever, and funny, but be warned it does have a sad ending (I was actually told not to read the ending in public under any circumstances!), but it's very worth it.

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
NYC in a new york color minute water street blue,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Nicole by OPI sweet dreams,
Sephora by OPI lights, glammer-a, action!,
a dotting tool,
and a detail brush.

Finger Foods dots and stripes

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Finger Food's theme buffet is dots and stripes! I was going for a vintage/grunge vibe in today's mani and I think I pulled it off nicely!

I started with a base of Petites color fever vintage gray and then layered two coats of Ulta popping bottles over it. I think I could've worn popping bottles without any base but I would of had to use four or more coats. I stamped with Wistonia W111 and Lotus herbals colour dew gold mist. I really love popping bottles but it was very streaky even with a base polish.

GOT Challenge Skittles

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Golden Oldie Thursdays challenge is skittle! I haven't been stamping as much lately and I wanted to do something bright and cheerful, so I pulled out this heart image (it's from a valentine's plate but it worked pretty well for this!). I used two different polishes for each nail, it was way easier to pick out old polishes for this since I didn't have a set color theme.

I really like the gold and mauve combo on my middle finger, I think I'll do something else with those polishes in the near future.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop base coat,
Klean Color boogie nights,
NYC in a new york color minute heat wave,
Revlon colorstay seashell,
Essence colour & go modern romance,
E.L.F bubble gum pink,
E.L.F nude,
E.L.F coral dream,

Hard Candy Pop Rocker swatches

Hi girls!

I have some swatches for you today! I won this polish in a giveaway a couple months ago and it's been sitting on my desk untried ever since. I think this is pretty zippy looking glitter topper by itself so I didn't add any nail art like I usually would. This is Hard Candy pop rocker over Petites color fever vintage gray.

                                                                        without flash
Pop rocker has red, white, and black, bar glitters, micro glitters, and hex glitters in a clear base. This is a sparse single coat, it comes out on the brush very thick. I think it goes wonderfully with this gray, it makes me think of mid century modern prints. The glitter has a rough finish but some top coat smoothed it out nicely.

                                                                        with flash

                                                                    with flash

The bottle is jam packed with glitter so I'm expecting this to last for quite a while!

NYC Mint'ed on Broadway swatches and FFTB flowers

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Finger Food's theme buffet challenge is flowers, and I took the chance to swatch one of my untrieds! This is three coats of NYC in a new york color minute mint'ed on broadway without topcoat. Mint'ed on Broadway is a dusty turquoise, it was a little streaky on the first coat but the second and third smoothed it right out. Clean up was a breeze so I suspect that it'll be very easy to take off, most of NYC's creme polishes are the same. It has a normal dry time so I didn't have to wait very long to stamp.

And here's the floral portion of my mani! I was going to stamp in mint but for some reason my mint polish turned this dingy ugly shade of green when layered on this, so I turned to my trusty Konad white stamping polish. The stamping plate is Wistonia W110, and I finished with topcoat.
