Golden Oldies Thursdays challenge orange

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the GOT challenge is orange! I only have a handful of orange polishes because personally I think it doesn't look that great on me, and most of the ones I do have, I've picked up rather recently. So I didn't have that many options for my nails, I stamped NYC in a new york color minute heat wave over a base of Wet n wild wild shine blazed with W101. My two shades are pretty close in color so my stamping didn't pop, but I do like the subtlety of it.

The second picture was taken without flash, and it's closer to the true color of blazed but the stamping wouldn't show up. Blazed is a almost pastel coral orange, for some reason my camera made it into a neon tangerine!

DIY circle skirts

Hi girls!

I'm finally posting about those skirts I hinted at a couple weeks ago in one of my weekly wrap ups! I used this tutorial for the pattern, and this video to get a better feel as to how to put it all together.

I've made two of the skirts so far, the one I'm wearing above is the second one I've sewn. I made the first a bit too big so I sewed a couple pleats into it to make the waist smaller, the second doesn't have any pleats. And it's pretty flowy without them, I was lucky to get this just the right size on my second try.

I used some vintage sheets to make these instead of buying yardage, you need a ginormous square of fabric to make this. I'm sure there's a better way to cut this out, you're left with a lot of leftover fabric, but for now I just cut it the way the tutorial I used did.  I could of done a proper waistband with elastic but I just left it with the one seam. I used a plain zipper and hand sewed a hook and loop closing in to finish it.

I'm planning on making an assortment of these in different colors, they'll be great for wearing in the summer when it warms up a bit!
The skirt below was my first try, it's wearable but I'm happier with how the floral one came out so I'll probably get more wear out of that one.

Water Kappa nail art

Hi girls!

Today is the cute theme in the Finger Foods challenge! I was inspired by these nails, they're little water kappas! A water kappa is a creature from Japanese folklore, and they have bald heads so that's why the nails have that circle of yellow on the top of his head. I used a dotting tool for his eyes, beak, and the little blushies, and I did the darker green with a nail art polish.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The color workshop base coat,
Lotus herbals colour dew deep sea,
Pure ice free spirit,
NYC in a new york color minute lexington yellow,
Wet n wild megalast candy-licious,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Color Mates nail art teal,
and a dotting tool.

Raindrops keep falling on my head

Hi girls!

It's the very last day of the Mish Mash challenge and theme is seasons. We're in our rainy season right now where I live so I decided to do a rain drop design. I used four different blue polishes to create a shimmery gradient for the base of my nail art and then I used a dotting tool and a detail brush for the raindrops, I started by making a dot for the bottom of the raindrop and then I freehanded the pointed tip with the detail brush.

I'm in a bit of lull with my nail art challenges, I just finished around three of them so I'll be able to slow down a bit for the next couple days. Participating in challenges has helped me think of some of my best nail art, but I do like having a stretch of time to just post whatever without having themes.

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint,
NYC cashmere cream,
Sally Girl brainy,
Wet n wild fast dry teal of fortune,
Sephora by OPI Lights, Glammer-a, Action!
a dotting tool,
and a detail brush.

Anti-Valentines Shattered Hearts nail art

Hi girls!

The last theme in the Strum my Heartstrings challenge is anti-valentine, I was pretty stumped as to what to do for this one but I found this lovely mani by of faces and fingers that inspired me to create these nails. So instead of the usual image of a broken heart with a jagged line down the middle, these are shattered hearts. I started with a base of black, outlined the hearts in silver glitter and then filled them in with a pink crackle polish to get the shattered effect.
I had almost forgotten I had this crackle, I should use crackles in my nail art more often!

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
NYC black lace creme,
L.A colors art deco silver glitter,
Fright Night claw polish unnamed pink crackle,
and a detail brush.

Hearts on Chains valentine's day mani

Hi girls!

Today is the final day in the Week of Love Valentine challenge and the theme is to re-create your favorite mani that someone else has done for the challenge. I re-created this mani from FingerFood, she did it for the heart theme. In the Strum my Heartstrings challenge the theme for today is something inspired by love, and I'm a day late for the GOT challenge, the theme for that was just Valentine's Day.

I'm kind of running short on ancient polishes for the GOT challenge so I used one of my untrieds for today's mani  (the rules say I can!). I recieved this polish when I won the Midwest Lacquered Mama's one year blogiversary giveaway, this is Zoya Giovanna. This is four coats, I dinged one of my nails so that's the reason I used so many coats, I think you could get away with only two. It has a pretty average dry time, I really didn't like the brushes handle though, it's pretty wonky to paint with.

I used a detailing brush and a dotting tool, same as Sam did with hers. I'm very happy with how my hearts came out, I'm usually not very good at freehanding hearts and having them all look more or less the same.

Other polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop base coat,
Lotus Herbals colour dew gold mist,
a detailing brush,
and a dotting tool.

Hearts and polka dots

Hi girls!

The Strum my Heartstrings challenge and the Week of Love challenge have the same theme for today, hearts! My mani is loosely based on these nails, I wasn't able to find the original source so that'll have to do. This was a fairly quick design to do, but I had to use four coats of my base, NYC sheer french manicure kisses, so overall it took a bit longer than I expected. I used a dotting tool for the polka dots and a detail brush for the hearts on my index and pinkie.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop base coat,
NYC kisses,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
NYC in a new york color minute fruit punch,
a dotting tool,
and a detail brush.

Black and White stamped rose tips

Hi girls!

It's the next to last theme in the Mish Mash challenge and the theme is black and white, it's also roses in the Week of Love challenge, and symbols of Valentine's day in the Strum my Heartstrings challenge.
I decided roses are a pretty good symbol of Valentine's day so I have a black and white french mani for you today!
The black stamping is much darker in real life, for some reason it showed up gray in my pictures. I just took a image of a rose and stamped half of it on the tip of the nail, and then went over the sides again to fill in the entire tip.

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop iced out,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
and Wistonia W104.

Hearts and Kisses french mani

Hi girls!

Today's mani is compiling a trio of different themes, I missed the heart theme from the Finger Food theme buffet Sunday, it's french tip day in the Strum my Heartstrings challenge, and it's kisses day in the Week of Love challenge. I thought it'd be near impossible to put all of these together but I managed to pull it off!
I wanted to do something different from the normal white tipped french mani so I pulled out two of my lightest pink polishes and I think they look really pretty together in a subtle way! And I couldn't figure out a way to add hearts and kisses to this so I flipped through my plates and found this cute image!

Polishes I used:

The Color workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine tickled pink,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
NYC matte me crazy,
and Konad m4.

Let it Snow Winter challege last day dotticure

Hi girls!

So for my second post for today I have my mani for the last day of the Let it Snow challenge! The last theme is to re-create your favorite mani from another participant. I decided to try this mani Polished by Audison did for the dots theme from a couple weeks back.

My version is a bit more hodge-podge looking but I really love how it turned out. They really pop in real life, they're actually a bit flashier than what I usually have on my nails!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop base coat,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n wild megalast violet attack (not sure why this is named violet when it's so blue),
NYC in a new york color minute water street blue,
Jordana boy oh boy,
and a dotting tool.

Week of Love Day One Candy Heart Sayings nail art

Hi girls!

I'm a bit behind on my posts, we got more than a foot of snow and our power went out for a couple days, but I have power and internet for the moment so I'll be playing catchup today! I'm starting a new challenge, the Week of Love Valentine's nail art challenge. Bee Happy and Buy Polish made the challenge and I'm looking forward to see everyone's takes on the themes! It's also the first day of the Strum my Heartstrings challenge by The Lacquered Landlubber and the theme is matte.

The first day's theme is Candy Heart sayings, I don't have many pastel polishes so I had to dig around a bit to find the right shades for today's mani. I just freehanded the letters with a detail brush and matted it with NYC matte me crazy to give it that chalky candy finish that the candies have.

My lettering didn't come out quite the way I hoped but I like the end result, I think the mint on my index finger looks really nice matted.

Polishes I used:

The Color Workshop base coat,
Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet,
NYC in a new york color minute lexington yellow,
Wet n wild wild shine tickled pink,
elf unnamed,
NYC in a new york color minute MoMa,
NYC matte me crazy,
and a dotting tool.

Let it Snow re-create your favorite mani

Hi girls!

It's the next to last day in the Let it Snow challenge and today's theme is to re-create one of your manis from previous themes in the challenge. I'm re-creating my day five mani, the theme was owls. My previous mani was going to look like this but my stamping came out horribly so I had to scrap it and turn it into something else. Anyway, this is what it should of looked like!

My base is Wet n wild wild shine tickled pink and I stamped with Wet n wild wild shine black creme and W115. The glitter is NYC in a New York color minute sparkle top coat, I won it in a giveaway a couple weeks ago, I'll be doing a post on the goodies I got very soon!

Mish Mash Hetalia America nail art

Hi girls!

Today's theme in Mish Mash challenge is animated movie/tv show so of course I did some Hetalia nail art! I have a laundry list of manis I want to do for Hetalia, and since I already sort of knew what I wanted to do for America's, that's what I chose for today!

My index is Al's pet whale, my middle is America (A.K.A Alfred F. Jones), my ring is his flag, and the pinkie is his best friend Tony the alien. I used a striping brush for all the details and outlining and a dotting tool for the eyes. I went with a cartoony flag instead of trying to paint the stars, for some reason I just can't freehand stars.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
NYC french tip,
NYC color in a new york minute water street blue,
Lotus herbals colour dew gold mist,
L.A colors color craze seashell,
Orly ever burgundy,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Essence colour & go little miss sunrise,
L.A colors art deco dark blue,
NYC color in a new york minute sidewalkers,
Wet n wild megalast sugar coat,
a detail brush,
and a dotting tool.

Let it Snow fairy wings mani

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Let it Snow challenge is butterfly/fairywings and I found this lovely fairy image to base my mani off of. I used my calligraphy pen for the fairy, she came out a little bigger than I was planning but she doesn't look half bad! My base is Essence nude glam peaches and cream and to finish I added a thin coat of Sephora by OPI G-listen to your heart.
