Let it Snow half moons calligraphy

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Let it Snow challenge is half moons! I recently bought a calligraphy pen after seeing this nail art tool a couple weeks ago. I wasn't sure if a regular calligraphy nib would work the same so I was a bit hesitant to get one since the pens can be sorta pricy. But when I looked at Jo-Anns they only had one left on the shelf and the ink pot that came with it had exploded, and I was able to get them to discount it so I snagged it for only a buck fifty!

I had a calligraphy set a couple years ago so I sort of remember how to do it, but I definitely need some more practice! I'm thinking this will make lettering way easier to do, I'm excited to see what I'll be able to do in future nail art. This tutorial inspired the design, and I used the ink that came with the pen for the lace half moons. I was surprised that my topcoat didn't smear the ink, and the cleanup was a breeze.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
and Color Mates little blue box.

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink birthday mani

Hi girls!

This is the mani I wore for my birthday yesterday, my base is four coats of Revlon colorstay seashell. I picked it up at Big Lots for 1.50, and I thought it would be a nice neutral base for nail art but it's super sheer so that was a bit of a let down. My nail line is less noticeable in real life, but not by much.

I stamped over seashell with one of my oldest polishes, Orly razzle. The plate is W111 and the glitter topper is one coat of Sephora by OPI G-listen to your heart (I love that name!).

I stopped at a little coffee place in Salem because I heard they had bubble tea and I've wanted to try it out for a while. I got a raspberry/rose blend and it was really good! I don't think I've ever had anything rose flavored before, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it! And by coincidence my nails perfectly matched my drink so I snapped a quick pic.

Let it Snow challenge tribal

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Let it Snow challenge is tribal, and I didn't want to take off yesterday's nails yet, so I used one of my nail art polishes to do a quick tribal design over those nails.

The blue is L.A colors art deco sea-foam green and my base is Revlon colorstay rain forest. I have around ten of the art deco polishes I really like having them on hand for quick nail art like this so I don't have to get all my brushes out.

Finger Foods Theme Buffet sparkle

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Finger Food's Theme Buffet challenge is sparkle, and I didn't really have any ideas for any nail art, so I decided to just swatch one of my newer sparkly polishes. I picked up a bunch of polishes for more than half off at big lots a couple weeks back, I got this one for 1.50. This is Revlon colorstay rain forest, three coats with topcoat. It look almost identical on the nail and in the bottle, but it's a bit darker in real life.

I could of stopped at two coats but I usually do three when I'm swatching. I think this'll look great in a Halloween mani or stamped with black. This took absolutely forever to dry though, I think it was around three hours before I was able to do little things without worrying about totally wrecking my nails.

Calvin Klein ck one mascara review

Hi girls!

I signed up for Ulta's rewards program a few months back and I was recently e-mailed a voucher for a free Calvin Klein mascara since my birthday is coming up, the email said they were going to send all of their members a voucher in their birth month.

This is in the shade black but it looks like this mascara comes in quite a few colors, I saw it in blue and purple on the Calvin Klein website. The packaging says "Multi-look brush expands or contracts for on-demand volume, length, and definition. Long wearing smudge + flake resistant + ophthalmologist tested." I didn't think to read the packaging before opening it up so it took me a minute to figure out how to change the brush length, the very top of the tube twists and changes the length and thickness of the wand.

The top picture is before twisting and the lower is after. Using the wand after contacting the bristles adds a lot of volume in application, and the stretched out version mostly lengthens and separates your lashes. I've read other reviews saying it was difficult to remove the mascara even with makeup remover but I didn't have any trouble taking it off. The only complaint I have is it dries very fast, so if you want to brush your lashes in between coats you have to work quickly.
Besides that, I really like it and I think it's a lovely mascara, but I probably wouldn't buy one for the full price which is 20-24 dollars.

GOT blue glitter gradient

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the GOT challenge is blue and I pulled out all stops for this mani! I used seven of my older blue polishes for these nails, and I love how it turned out!

These are much darker in real life and the silver glitter stands out a bit more, for some reason my camera has a history of hating glittery gradients. I used a crackle in this, instead of putting it on the normal way I sponged it on and I really like the way it turned out, I'll be doing that in more manis to come!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild wild shine carribean frost,
Jordana boy oh boy,
Pure ice french kiss,
EN-VY blue my mind,
Crayola pacific blue,
Orly star of bombay,
Sally Hansen crackle overcoat distressed denim,
and a sponge.

Nordic Five nail art

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Mish Mash challenge is use your favorite technique. I couldn't decide if freehand would be too vague but I decided to not worry and just do something!

These are the Nordic Five from Hetalia, my pinkie is Norway, ring is Iceland, middle is Sweden, index is Finland and my thumb is Denmark.
I'm very happy with how Sweden came out I think he's pretty cute!

I did all of their flags on my right hand in the same order, pinkie is Norway, ring Iceland, middle Sweden, index is Finland, and thumb is Denmark.

These were a bit more difficult to do since I'm right handed, but I don't think they look too shabby!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n wild fast dry buffy the violet slayer,
Wet n wild megalast violet attack,

Let it Snow Dot Animaniacs nail art

Hi girls!

I've gone out of the box for today's theme, it's dot day in the Let it Snow challenge and I took that literally and painted some Dot nails! In case you don't know, Dot is a character from the kids show Animaniacs. This along with Angry Beavers is one of my favorite 90's cartoons and I've been wanting to do some nail art for the show for ages!
I used a detail brush for all the details on Dot, and the actual dots are stamped with SH23.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,

Finger Food Theme Buffet weather

Hi girls!

I'm a bit late with today's post, this theme crept up on me and I almost forgot it was today! Today's theme in the Finger Food Theme Buffet is weather and I have a lovely cloudy mani to match the weather where I live! It's been gloomy and overcast 24/7 for over a week and it's making my daily sky pics a bit boring, but it finally brightened up today!
I started with a white base and added a coat of Sephora by OPI flurry up to give the clouds a bit more texture. The blue is Jordana boy oh boy and I used W113 for the cloud stamping.

Other polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
and The Color Workshop iced out.

Let it Snow 4th Doctor scarf nail art

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Let it Snow winter challenge is Hats/Mittens/Scarfs. I decided to go with scarfs and today's mani is inspired by the 4th Doctor's iconic scarf. I got the idea from this youtube tutorial but I changed the color scheme around a bit.

I started with a base of white so all the colors would really pop and I painted all the stripes with a detail brush.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
L.A colors color craze nuclear energy,
NYC color in a new york minute sidewalkers,
NYC color in a new york minute heatwave,
NYC color in a new york minute flat iron green,

GOT vintage mint stripes

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Golden Oldie Thursdays challenge is stripes! I've been in a minty mood lately, and I'm really liking pastels ! Anyway I started with a base of Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet and the stripes are Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint. I need a refresh-mint is actually a light blue polish but when I stamped it, it looked very green!

I decided I wanted to throw in something extra so I stamped love on my ring finger in Wet n wild wild shine lavender creme. I stamped the stripes with SH23 and love with BM09.
I love how these turned out looking sort of vintage, they remind me of old greeting cards for some reason!

Mish Mash color combo you would never use

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Mish Mash challenge is two colors you would never usually pair up. The only combo's I could think of were purple/orange and pink/green, I've put together some pretty weird colors so it was hard to think of something I haven't done.

And I reached the conclusion that there's a reason I don't put purple and orange together, the first two pics are with a shiny topcoat, and then the last is matted.

I'm not sure if matting this helped at all, I think it might look slightly better?

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild wild shine sunny side up,
The Color Workshop lavender,
L.A colors color craze tropical breeze,
and NYC matte me crazy.

e.l.f Disney villains Maleficent look book review

Hi girls!

I actually took all the pictures to do this review ages ago, but I got distracted by nail art challenges so they never got posted! But since I have a lull in all my nail challenges I figured I should actually get around to writing my review!

The look book comes with a eyeshadow pallet with six colors, a eye primer, a black eyeliner pencil, a black mascara, an eyeshadow brush, a black liquid liner, and a lip gloss. It also has instructions for a day and night look on either side.

The first three eyeshadow shades (flora, fauna, and spell), were very easy to apply, almost creamy, and lasted all day. The other three (raven black, thorns, and deep sleep), are way more pigmented so a little goes a very long way! I was excited to use the eyeshadow brush that came with the set since I've heard all sorts of good things about e.l.f''s brushes, but the brush shed horribly, so badly that I think I must of gotten a faulty one or something.

all six of the shadows swatched, click to enlarge

The pencil eyeliner is just your average pencil liner, but I absolutely loved the liquid liner! It goes on very easily and doesn't smudge at all, and the brush is super thin which I love since I wear my liner flicked out at the ends. The lip color looks great by itself but I didn't really care for the doe foot applicator, and the color lasted for a couple hours before fading. I liked the mascara but it wasn't anything special, it gives good length and separates the lashes nicely but no volume at all.

liquid liner, pencil liner, and lip color swatched

So overall I really liked the set, but the packaging was a bit of a hassle. Everything was snapped tightly into place so it was a bit of a pain to get stuff out. So besides that and my faulty brush, I think this a good buy!

Where's Waldo nail art

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Let it Snow challenge is stripes! Usually I'm no good at freehanding stripes, but I think they look passable this time! I wanted to throw in some nail art too, so since Waldo from Where's Waldo wears a striped red shirt, I striped my nails red and white and then I painted a little Waldo peeking up on the tip of my ring nail.

I'm very happy with how Waldo came out, I think his little hat turned out really cute! I used a small detail brush and a dotting tool for all the details on Waldo. He was actually much easier to paint than I was expecting, for some reason his hat was the hardest part to paint!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
Wet n wild megalast sugar coat,
Petites color fever seashell,
e.l.f smoky brown,
a dotting tool,
and a striping brush.

Theme Buffet geometric nails

Hi girls!

It's the second day of the Finger Food's Theme Buffet and today's theme is shapes/geometric. I've been wanting to try this image out for a while now, it didn't stamp as clearly as I thought it would, but I still really like the result!

I started with a base of e.l.f mod mauve and a light coat of Ulta holiday mixer. Mod mauve was a light creamy mauve beforehand, holiday mixer is in a dark purple jelly base so it really darkened it.

I stamped with e.l.f pot of gold and W111, I love the sort of gypsy circus feel to this mani, I think I'll be playing around with this image some more very soon.

Let it Snow snow leopard

Hi girls!

Today's theme in the Let it Snow challenge is snow leopard, and I'm so happy with how these turned out! I thought my stamping would cover up most of the glitter but it all worked out and I think they look wonderful!

I started with a base of Pink ice by rue21 031 and a light coat of Nicole by O.P.I sweet dreams. I haven't used this stamping plate for about a year, somehow I lost it and it turned up under a couch. Anyway, the plate is Konad m57 and I used Konad's white stamping polish for the leopard spots.

GOT challenge pink hearts

Hi girls!

I've joined the latest Nail Tarts challenge, the Golden Oldie Thursday challenge! The gist of the challenge is to use your oldest polishes that you haven't used in a while and give them some love!

THE RULES

* the polish you use should be at least one year old
* if you haven't been a polishaholic that long, you can use the oldest polishes you have
* the polish should be previously used, but if you're stuck, you could free a yearling from Mount Untried (seriously, some of mine are reaching puberty out there)
* you can use more than 1 polish as long as it fits the theme and the rules

Day one is pink! The two polishes I picked are actually some of the oldest I own, I think they're three or four years old. My base is a unnamed The Color Workshop polish and  the pink I stamped with is Wet n wild wild shine lavender pearlescent.

I stamped with W102, since these are both such shimmery polishes it was a bit difficult to get a clear picture of the stamping. The polishes contrast a bit less in real life so this actually turned out to be a pretty subtle mani.

Mish Mash roaring 20's mani

Hi girls!

The Mish Mash challenge has rolled around once again and today's theme is inspired by a decade.
My mani was inspired by this mani by Leave my Fingerprints.
I was thinking about stamping a 20's-ish design on my other nails, but I really liked it with just the accent nail so I left it be.

My ring finger is a flapper headband, I started by painting the black line with a striping brush, then I stamped the feather with W108 and added a small pink rhinestone to where the feather connects with the band.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild clear nail protector,
Essence nude glam peach & cream,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
and W108.

Let it Snow Pink Snowmen!

Hi girls!

It's day twelve of the Let it Snow challenge and today's theme is Snowmen! I wanted to do something different from the usual blue snowmen mani, I'm getting a little burned out with blue nails to be honest.
You can't really tell but this is a skittle mani, I used three different pink glitters layered in different combinations, but they turned out all kind of looking the same.

The snowman is stamped with SH10, his eyes wouldn't pick up when I stamped so I had to go in with a detail brush and give him his two tiny eyes. My base polish is The Color Workshop sweet glaze, and this is three coats. It's a super creamy easy to apply polish, it's a touch sheer but I think that's just because it's such a light pink. It dried surprisingly fast, ten minutes and it was ok to stamp on!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
The Color Workshop sweet glaze,
Wet n wild wild shine sparked,
The Color Workshop dream world,
Crayola tickle me pink,
NYC matte me crazy,
and SH10.

Finger Food's Theme Buffet animal print

Hi girls!

Finger Food's theme buffet challenge starts today! The first theme of the challenge is animal print.

This is the four eyed butterfly fish, aren't they beautiful? I copied the scale pattern as best I could by doing a sort of fishtail design and the spots were super easy to do.

I used a detail brush for everything and I also added a thin coat of Claire's glow in the dark blue so they glow too!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Lakme' color crush 03,
Wet n wild wild shine black crème,
Orly star of Bombay,
Claire's glow in the dark blue,
The Color Workshop topcoat,
and a detail brush.
