Happy Thanksgiving!

Hi girls!

Happy Thanksgiving!
I actually had a thanksgiving mani lined up for Monday but my nails just wouldn't photograph so I wasn't able to post them. So here's take two on my turkey nails, I stamped with Wistonia's thanksgiving themed plate; W119.
My base polish is NYC in a new York color minute heat wave, I got it in a pack with fruit punch which I swatched a couple days ago. I don't know if I got a bad bottle or something but it was a pain in the neck to apply and I've never had problems with a NYC polish before. It streaked terribly and took three coats to smooth out!

I'm happy with how my turkey turned out, I originally wanted to stamp it in gold but I didn't think it would stand out enough. The gold polish I used for the leaves is Nina ultra pro gladiator.

33DC Lines glitter tribal mani

Hi girls!

It's day 28 of the 33DC challenge and today's theme is lines! I absolutely love this skittle glitter tribal mani that Plumeria Painted did last week so I picked some of my favorite glitters and painted one of my own!

This is before I added my tribal lines, the index and pinkie nails are glitter toppers over a base and the rest are cream base glitter polishes.

I just used a little detail brush for my lines, this actually came together fairly quick; I think it only took 15 minutes to do. I love how my pinkie turned out, I wish I'd done more of the nails like that!

Polishes I used:

NYC extra shiny top coat,
Wet n wild wild shine sparked,
Wet n wild wild shine French white tip,
EN-VY blue my mind,
Hard Candy peach pop,
Essence colour & go modern romance,
picture polish frosting by cosmetic cupcake,
Nicole by OPI sweet dreams,
Pink Ice by rue21 031,
and a detail brush.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary mani

Hi girls!

I saw a bunch of DW manis for the 50th anniversary in my feed this morning and I kicked myself for not remembering to do one of my one sooner! I've been wanting to redo this mani I did more than a year ago for quite a while and this gave me the perfect excuse to!

My index is Eleven's coat and bowtie, my middle is the TARDIS, my ring is a dalek, and my pinkie is the initials DW.
I changed my thumb up a bit from last time, I layered red over black and I really like how the hearts look deep and layered.

Polishes I used:

NYC extra shiny top coat,
Wet n wild megalast violet attack,
Wet n wild wild shine French white tip,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
Lotus herbals colour dew gold mist,
Lotus herbals colour dew copper gold,
Wet n wild wild shine metallica,
The Color workshop unnamed,
a dotting tool,
and a detail brush.

Day 27 33DC

Hi girls!

It's day 27 in The Crumpet's 33DC and the challenge is use three patterns! I wanted to do something quick and easy so I went with a set of gradients.
I did three different gradients, my index is a purple base with a blue and green gradient, middle is a blue base with a purple and green gradient, my ring is a green base with a purple and blue gradient, and the pinkie is just a repeat of my index. I've had to resort to some strange hand positions due to my sprained wrist, so I was only able to get one decent picture.

Polishes I used:

NYC extra shiny top coat,
Wet n wild fast dry buffy the violet slayer (love that name!),
Klean Color midnight queen,
and Sally Hansen Insta-Dry jumpin' jade.

NYC in a New York color minute Fruit Punch swatches

Hi girls!

I picked up this two pack of NYC in a New York color minute polishes from the Dollar Tree last week, they only had a couple of different combinations of polishes so I dug through and picked out the pair I thought looked the prettiest, Fruit Punch and Heat Wave.

Fruit Punch reminds me a bit of A-England's polishes, it's super shimmery and almost looks like a holo polish!

This is two coats with a coat of NYC extra shiny top coat, it has a pretty average drying time but it chipped very easily, I was missing an entire nail on the second day. But that could just be me and my amazing nail wrecking skills, I seem to keep finding new and exciting ways to chip my nails.!

Mochi Making

Hi girls!

I made some plushie mochis from the anime Hetalia a couple days ago and it got me wondering what actual mochi taste like so I did a little searching and found this easy recipe on how to make them!

The only thing I changed from the original recipe is I used potato starch instead of wheat starch. I looked at a bunch of different recipes and I don't think it really matters what sort of starch you use, I saw one using cornstarch and I'm sure that would be less of a hassle to get a hold of than wheat or potato.

I wasn't able to get my dough to form into a nifty ball like in the video but it smoothed out nicely when I rolled the individual balls by hand.

The sweetened bean paste actually tastes good by itself, the dough not so much; I have a tendency to nibble on things throughout the cooking process, that's probably why it takes me so long to make cookies!

These only kept for a little more than a day, they were still eatable the second day but the centers had dried out a bit so they weren't as tasty. These are super filling too, I ate two or three since they're so small and was feeling very full for the rest of the day!

Monday Blues Totoro nail art

Hi girls!

I based today's Monday blues mani off these nails; I changed up some of the colors which may have been a good idea or not, in the original design the middle finger was grey instead of white. I like how it looks in white but I didn't think ahead as to what I was going to do about the eyes, so his eyes turned out a bit unique.

My index finger turned out the best I think, Lotus Herbals color dew deep sea is one of my favorite blue polishes that I own.

Polishes I used:

NYC extra shiny top coat,
NYC in a new York color minute sidewalkers,
Petites color fever vintage gray,
Wet n wild megalast sugar coat,
Wet n wild wild shine French white tip,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
Lotus herbals colour dew deep sea,
a dotting tool,
and a detail brush.

33DC Day 25 Nimbus nails

Hi girls!

It's day 25 of The Crumpet's 33DC and today's theme is a new technique for you. I first saw these nails on Tales of Knit and Nails, but the original mani is from The Nailasaurus.
This is called nimbus nail art, you mix your nail polish with acetone and dab it on with cotton swabs to get this watery layered look. Sammy's tutorial said you could use nail polish remover instead of acetone and it's less effective, but that's all I had on hand so that's what I went with.

I used four different blue polishes for this, I started with the darkest and went from there. It was a bit of a pain to clean up, but I really like it!

Polishes I used:

NYC extra shiny top coat,
NYC in a new York color minute water street blue,
Wet n wild megalast violet attack,
Jordana boy oh boy,
Lotus herbals colour dew deep sea,
and Wet n wild wild shine French white tip.

Day 23 33DC geometric

Hi girls!

It's day 23 of the Crumpet's 33 Day Challenge and today's theme is geometric, I've been wanting to do a mani in light blue/mint shades lately so I pulled out one of my favorite light blue polishes; Color Mates little blue box.

The stamping reminds me of 50's diner flooring for some reason, but in a good way! I used Pure ice 031 by rue21 for my accent nail and Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris for the stamping. The plate iss BM10. I finished it all off with a coat of NYC extra shiny top coat.

Princess Mononoke Kodama nails

Hi girls!

I have to admit Princess Mononoke isn't one of my favorite Studio Ghibli movies, but I loved the little forest spirit creatures that led Ashitaka and San through the forests of their world. I looked them up and apparently they're called Kodama which is a spirit from Japanese folklore.
I  picked up the manga version of the movie so I could look at the artwork up close, but that doesn't seem to have helped me much!
I can't figure out how I couldn't do something simple like these little guys, but I'm able to paint decent faces that have tons of details!

I started with a base of a light green polish and then I lightly sponged a dark jewel toned green over the top to give it more of a leafy/mossy look. I also added a very light coat of a sheer shimmery green polish to smooth everything out before I started on the kodama. I used a striping tool to paint the white of their bodies first and then outlined everything in black and added the details of the arms and legs. I used a dotting tool for the eyes and mouths, I used the same green I sponged with since the mouths and eyes are really just holes going through their entire head.

Polishes I used:

NYC extra shiny topcoat,
China Glaze def defying,
Rimmel London 60 seconds camouflage,
L.A colors color craze current,
Sally Hansen Insta-Dry jumpin' jade,
Wet n wild wild shine French white tip,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
a dotting tool,
and a striping tool.

Wandering Eugene

Hi girls!

I was out in Eugene yesterday with the family and our GPS decided to take us a rather creative way through downtown Eugene and we drove past this funky food truck! I found their website here, they have a bunch of yummy things on their menu like deep fried Oreos and Nutterbutters, but I'm not sure what a roast beef sandwich with apricots would taste like!

I love the zentangle look of the truck, and the faux fur mustache is just the cherry on top!

We stopped at the Valley River Center mall to check out some shops and they're were a bunch of Cosplayers running around, I saw Batman, Robin, Captain Jack Sparrow, Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Chewbacca, Iron Man, Captain America, Deadpool, and a couple Homestuckers but I think they might've been just hanging out. I wish I knew what was going on beforehand, I think I might of missed an opportunity to dress up!

This is a ring I got from Forever 21 for 2.80, it's usually really hard for me to find a ring that comfortably fits on all of my fingers, and I love the cat ears!

I also picked up an adorable France sticker from an anime vendor at the mall, I stuck it on the lid of my lap top the minute I got home!

And last but not least, I picked up a few young adult books I've enjoyed from a thrift shop for between 2.00 and .50 cents each!
