Leibster award

Hi guys!

I got tagged by Dream It Up Nails by Colleen for the Leibster award, and even though I've already received this award  in the past I wanted to answer all the questions she went to the trouble of thinking up.

This award is to help you discover some awesome new blogs that you may not of stumbled upon before! And these are the rules:
  1. You must link back to the blogger who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions given to you by the blogger who nominated you.
  3. Nominate 11 other bloggers with less than 200 followers.
  4. Go to the blogs you nominated and notify them of your nomination.
  5. Give your nominees 11 questions to answer
Here are  Colleen's eleven questions and my answers:

1. What made you start blogging? I wanted to share my nail art and various crafting projects with other people who also have the same interests as me!
2. How many nail polishes do you own? It adds up fast doesn't it? I just counted and was surprised, 173!
3. Which nail polish is your absolute favorite? So hard to decide! If I had to absolutely only pick one, it would be Jordana boy oh boy.
4. Which one: Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate!
5. Which one: Pastel nail polish or Neon nail polish? Pastel because I love pastel pinks and yellows but not in neon!
6. Do you have any pets? (if so, what kind/what are their names?) Josephine the hedgehog and Empress the cat!
7.If you could go on a vacation anywhere, where would you go? I would go to Japan because I would love to go to the shrines, and I'm just really interested in their culture .
 8. Are you a fan of textured polish? I haven't tried one out yet, but considering I usually can't stand 3-D stuff on my nails I don't think I'd be a fan.
9. In one word, how would you describe yourself? Vivacious!
10. If you had to pick a color to describe you, which would it be? Mossy green
11. If you were at the zoo and could only see one animal, which would you see? The giraffes!

Here's my 11 questions:
 1. What is your favorite book or book series?
2. What was the most complicated nail design you've attempted in the past?
3. If you could only wear different shades of one color for the rest of your life, what color would you choose?
4. Where's the farthest you've ever traveled from home?
5. What's your favorite sweet?
6. If you could go back to any day in times past and re-live it, what day would you go to?
7. What's your most regretted purchase (or something you passed up on), and your best purchase?
8.  What's your favorite piece of jewelry that you own?
9. Do  you cook or bake, and what's your favorite thing to make or eat?
10. Do you picture yourself  continuing to blog for a long time into the future?

May the odds be ever in your favor

Hi guys!

It's time for another I <3 nerd challenge and today's theme is The Hungers Games! I thought about maybe re-doing my mocking jay mani, but I decided to save that for later and do a Effie Trinket mani. I wasn't able to tell if her nails change throughout the rest of the movie, but these were the nails she had on when she pulled out Primrose's name out of the reaping bowl.

I just used this purple polish in my Etiquette and Espionage mani, so it was still in the top layer of my stash and I thought it would work perfectly for these nails! I used a sponge to add the gold, I lightly sponged over 3/4's of my nail and then sponged a bit more farther down to get the gradient effect.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild clear nail protector,
N.Y.C in a new York color minute MoMa,
and Nina Ultra Pro gladiator.

Lay me down on a bed of roses

Hi guys!

For the last day of the August Tri-Polish challenge I was thinking of doing roses because the flowers could be yellow and red and have green leaves, but then I found these gorgeous floral stamping images and just had to use them!
I used a base of three coats of Wet n wild megalast sugar coat and stamped with my red and yellow polish choices, N.Y.C in a new york color minute Lexington gardens and Ulta let the flames begin. I think I had a miniscule amount of a dark blue polish left in the image I used for the yellow flowers because I got these wonderful dark outlines when I stamped. I wish I knew how to do that on purpose!

I really like the manis I've come up with for this month's challenge, I think I've improved since last month!

As hard as nails, as grand as a whale

Hi guys!

I've jumped into yet another challenge, the Mish Mash challenge by Kimber's Lacquer Korner.
Today's theme is music, and there's a new theme every Wednesday until 2/19/14 so jump in if you can!
One of my favorite bands is called Lenka, I rarely find a band where I love almost all their music, but that's the case with Lenka!
My favorite song by them is Everything at once, it was the first song of theirs that I ever heard, and I was hooked from there on!

Today's nail art is inspired by this illustration, I'm pretty sure it's cover art but I'm not sure what album it came from. I love how my index finger looks, I'm probably going to do another mani solely with the black plants and swirls!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild clear nail protector,
N.Y.C French white tip
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Konad stamping polish white,
Petites color fever vintage gray,
W113,

Tri-Polish challenge August day three

Hi guys!

It's day three of the August Tri-polish challenge and I have sort of strange mani for you girls today. In truth this was a cloud mani when I started but I really didn't like how it turned out so I smoothed out the green into a diagonal line and added some dots and outlining in black.
I think it turned out looking sort of like abstract watermelon maybe? I also added a matte topcoat, and found out I really love this yellow matted!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
N.Y.C in a new York color minute Lexington gardens,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Wet n wild fast dry sage in the city,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
and a striping brush.

N.A.I.L a great read

Hi guys!

Today is the last day of the Nail Art Ideas Linkup and the theme is a great read! Instead of trying to figure out what's the best book I've read this summer, I picked the last book I read that I really enjoyed. This is where my obsessive book journal keeping comes in handy!
Today's mani is inspired by Etiquette and Espionage by Gail Carriger. It's set in the same world as her series the Parasol Protectors, so if you enjoyed those this would be great to read next!
In the interest of not totally spoiling the book for anyone who wants to read it, I'll give you a little explanation of each nail starting with my index.

My index is crossed swords to represent the flyawaymen (flying highwaymen) that confront Sophronia on several occasions, my middle for the extensive eyelash fluttering classes the girls have to attend,("Practice your eyelash-fluttering, ladies. Six rounds of one hundred each before bed.") my ring for her mechanimal (mechanical dog) named Bumbersnoot, my pinkie is just a Victorian print stamped in pink on black, and my thumb is the balloon that Sophronia and her friends "borrow" from the flyawaymen.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
N.Y.C in a new York color minute MoMa,
Wet n wild fast dry how I met your magneta,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
Konad black stamping polish,
Konad white stamping polish,
SH14,
SH08,
W117,
SH16,
and BM20.

Leggo my Eggo!

Hi guys!

It's the second day of Dream it up nail's National day of....... challenge and today's holiday is National Waffle Day! These nails were inspired by this nail tutorial, although I changed a couple things.
I started with a base of yellow and used a striping brush to crosshatch the gold. Then I used a nail art polish to do the syrup drips, I thought about using a more syrupy color, but I really like the dark brown against the yellow!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Essence colour & go little miss sunrise,
Color Mates nail art cocoa,
Lotus herbals colour dew gold mist,
and a striping brush.

Hi guys!

The I <3 nerd challenge has rolled around once again and today's theme is Star Wars! I've only managed to watch the part of Return Of The Jedi where they first meet the ewoks (well actually twice, somehow I hit it half way through while flipping channels and watched just that bit again), and that's about it. So I'm pretty neutral about Star Wars, and since I only have that small bit of film to go on, I googled around, found this hilarious stormtrooper nail art video, and this felt phone cozy. I went with the phone cozy and did my best to turn it into nail art!
I did a gradient on the rest of my nails with the same browns I used for the ewok and a white polish.

I used  a striping brush, dotting tool, and a nail art polish for the ewok, and I added a little walking stick to the right of him with a striping brush.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Lotus herbals colour dew copper gold,
Petites color fever seashell,
N.Y,C French white tip,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
a striping brush,
and a dotting tool.

Hi guys!

It's the second day of the August Tri-Polish challenge, and I have a simple heart nail art design for you girls today! Originally I was going to do a red hearts and green clubs playing card design, but after I started painting the hearts I decided they would look better by themselves!

I used a dotting tool and striping brush for the hearts, I made two small dots right next to each other for the top of the heart and then used the striping brush to make the pointed bottom.
This reminds me a lot of a Mary Engelbreit journal I have, a lot of her illustrations were in reds and yellows like this.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
N.Y.C in a new York color minute Lexington gardens,
Ulta let the flames begin,

August Tri-Polish challenge Day One

Hi guys!

It time for the TPC challenge once again and this month's colors are green, yellow, and red. I actually only have around four yellow polishes and not a lot of greens either so it was very easy to pick out polishes this time!

I wanted to get the required use all three polishes mani out of the way, so I went through my stamping plates and picked out this Wistonia plate that has a bunch of different fruit images all on one plate.

My green didn't stamp as vibrantly as I thought it would, but my red sure does pop! I used my favorite yellow polish, N.Y.C in a new york color minute Lexington gardens, it's a creamy pastel yellow and only needs two coats for full coverage so it's a keeper in my book!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Ulta let the flames begin,
Wet n wild wild shine French white crème,
N.Y.C in a new york color minute Lexington gardens,
Wet n wild fast dry sage in the city,
and W118.

Cupcakes are just muffins with fancy hats!

Hi guys!

Dream it up nails is having a National Day Of ...... Challenge and today is national cupcake day!
I recently won 365 Days of Nail Art's giveaway and the prize was the polish highest on your wishlist!  The polish I picked out is piCture pOlish frosting by Cosmetic Cupcake. I have been planning on using it for a MSMD mani ever since I found this adorable cake design from One Nail To Rule Them All, so everything has worked out in favor of this mani happening today!

This is three coats of frosting by itself, I love the little heart glitters sprinkled throughout the polish, and it was really easy to apply!

I went over the lower half of my nail with a white polish and then I used a striping brush for the gray stripes. I used a dotting tool for the cherry on top and then I dabbed a tiny bit more of frosting over the rim of the wrapper.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
piCture pOlish frosting by Cosmetic Cupcake,
Wet n wild wild shine French white tip,
Orly razzle,
Petites color fever vintage gray,
a striping brush,
and a dotting tool.

Bermuda, Bahama, Come On Pretty Mama

Hi guys!

It's going to be a little crazy around A girl and her chicken named Betty today! I'm catching up on challenges and finding new ones I want to do in process, so I might have up to three posts today!

I actually did these about a week ago over at the coast on my grandmother's nails, they're basically the same gradient and stamping as these nails but in blue shades instead of purple. Whenever I do a gradient I end up getting a lot of excess polish on the skin around my nails, but for some reason when I did these there was almost no clean up at all! I don't know if it's the angle of working on someone else's nails or what, but I wish that would happen when I did my nails!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
L.A colors color craze ?,
EN-VY cuckoo for you,
Color Mates little blue box,
and SH19.

She sells seashells by the sea shore

Hi guys!

It's the third theme of the Nail Art Ideas Linkup and today's theme is sand! I wish this one had rolled around before I left the beach, I could of had some awesome nail pics! I started with a light gold base and lightly sponged a brighter gold over the top for my sand. Then I stamped seashells in a dark pink, I was going to have a couple different pinks but my polishes refused to stamp properly.

My pictures aren't that crisp, because my golden sand is super shimmery when I use flash so I couldn't get the shells to show up. But luckily I had these done before it was dark out so I was able to get some passable photos.

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Lakme' 40" second gold caramel,
Nina utra pro gladiator,
Orly razzle,
Crayola tickle me pink,
and W108.

Hi guys!

I missed the last theme of the I <3 Nerd challenge which was Legos, because I was over at the coast, but I'm back on track and today's (or rather yesterday's since I'm a day behind) theme is The Walking Dead. I was kind of lost for ideas because WD falls into the typical run of the mill zombie show/movie category. But after some perusing of Halloween manis, I decided to go with zombies in general.

I used Fantasy Makers once upon a time over a bright pea soup green polish to create that classic green and bloody zombie look. I love this red glitter, I've worn it by itself in the past, but it still looks gorgeous even over green.

This has got me itching to do more Halloween manis, I can't wait until October when I can wear them 24/7!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
China Glaze def-defying,
and Fantasy Makers once upon a time.

Anne of Green Gables

Hi guys!

The stamping continues with what I like to call my sophisticated Anne of green gables nail art! Totally random name, I know, but Anne of green gables kept popping into my head while painting these so I stuck with it.

I absolutely adore this color combo, I rarely use purple even though I have a ton of different shades, but this has convinced me to wear it more often!
I'm also so happy with my stamping, usually I have trouble with centering my design, but I think I hit it dead on this time!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Sally Hansen Insta-dry jumpin' jade,
Petites color fever potion,
and BM08.

Aruba, Jamaica ooo I wanna take you

Hi guys!

I actually did these with a challenge in mind, but I missed the deadline so they went into my "to post bucket". The challenge theme was sun so I did these in sunset colors, I had three polishes picked out for my gradient (a blue, a purple, and a pink) and they looked pretty jarring together, so I'm surprised they melded so smoothly.

I think this might be one of my better gradients I've done in recent past, and I love the palm trees over the top. And I'm still at the beach, so these are perfect for me at the moment!

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
EN-VY cuckoo for you,
L.A colors color craze tropical breeze,
Wet n wild wild shine lavender crème,
and SH19.

Guest post: Fancy Nails and Cups of Tea

Hi guys! Thanks Alexandria for inviting me to share with you some nail art I did.

Now I'm not a major nail artist, in fact my nail art usually just comes from using tape, a sponge or a dotting tool. But I was so chuffed to do a guest post that I thought I'd go a little outside my realm and try some freehand stuff.

The theme is 'geek' and I really came up drawing blanks for this. I'm a massive book nerd and I'm a geek for retro and embarrassing TV shows, but I couldn't think of anything majorly geeky to inspire me for my nails. Then I thought of my favourite Nintendo game growing up (yes - Nintendo - that's how old I am), and realised it would make the perfect nail art.....TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES!!

Turtle power!! I used Illamasqua Nurture for the base, it was perfect as it  has the rubber/wax finish. That was just a fluke really!

Striped on the mask colours using a small brush and a dotting tool for the little raised bits. Colours - OPI Dating a Royal, Pretty Serious Hell on Wheels, China Glaze Grape Pop and Illamasqua Gamma (L-R).

My lil black nail art polish was perfect for covering up all manner of sins. You should have seen how wobbly those lines were before I added the black outline! Then the nose and mouth lines, and finally dotted on white then black for the eyes.

I was so dying to do an open mouth with those big cheesy grins the Turtles have in most of their pics. But I didn't think I would have the skills to keep going, I was happy with what I had and didn't want to push my luck!

Am loving have these wee guys on my nails, they are like lil friends keeping me company through my day! Awww!

Thanks for checking out my post, I hope to see you stop by at Fancy Nails and Cups of Tea sometime! Thanks Alexandria for having me :)

I'm your little butterfly

Hi guys!

I had a stamped mani all planned out with this really cute butterfly but it refused to stamp properly so I went through my stamping plate for a different butterfly image. I never realized how many butterfly images I have, probably one out of four of my plates has a butterfly! So instead of trying to pick just one butterfly out of at least ten, I just used as many as them as I could!

I think I like the one on my pinkie the most, while I was doing this I hadn't decided which image I wanted on each nail, I was just going randomly, but luckily I had the smallest image left for my pinkie! Otherwise I would've had a bit of a problem.  ;)

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
SH10,
SH05,
SH12,
BM05,
N.Y.C in a new York color minute water street blue,
and Konad special stamping polish white.

Guest post: Loz from Polish and Patterns

Hi everyone,
I'm honored to be here doing this guest post for Alexandria while she's away. When she first emailed me I was a little stumped as to what to do for her GEEK theme... decided on some pencil nail art!

I went through my polishes to first decide on which to use.. pencils can be any colour!
I began with a base coat of COLOUR by TBN ~ Yellow, using a thin nail brush I added the stripes/pencil shape with boe ~ Orange Citrus. {You could use a dotting tool or similar to draw the lines if you don't have nail art brushes}I then painted the bright silver metal part of the pencil using a w7 polish.. {has no name sorry!} At first I used Ulta3 ~ Pink Hibiscus for the 'eraser' part of the pencil but found it a little bright so added a single coat of Sinful Colours ~ Starfish over the top :)

It didn't quite look finished so I again used the thin brush to add some darker lines to the 'metal' part with China Glaze ~ Awaken. Finished! {Add a topcoat to prolong your mani.}
I like the mottled look of the two pinks on the 'eraser'.. and in case you're all wondering, yes.. my pointer nail has a rather large dent in it! My nail beneath is missing a few layers in one spot.. just looks like someone chewed the end of the pencil, right? :)
I hope you like this manicure, and thanks to Alexandria for being a guest on your blog!
Loz x

Guest post: Lacquered by Blue Vanilla

Hi guys!

I'm actually relaxing at the coast right now with no internet, so I asked the talented Xin Yu from Lacquered by Blue Vanilla if she would want to write a guest post for me, and she came up with a terrifically geeky mani! So without further adieu, here it is!

Shark week!

Hi guys!

It's shark week! I've done shark week nails once before, and since I'm going to the coast for a week I thought this would be the perfect mani to sport!
Newport aquarium used to have these ginormous shark jaws you could stand behind and that used to be my favorite part of visiting there, so that's what inspired today's nails.

I started with white and then a light coat of a ivory polish for the jaws. Then I went over the teeth with a grey polish and painted in some shadows in the same gray. Then I used Crayola Pacific Blue on the rest of my nails (mostly 'cause of the name).

Polishes I used:

Wet n wild wild shine clear nail protector,
Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint,
Crayola pacific blue,
N.Y.C French white tip,
Sally Hansen 10 day no chip surely ivory,
Wet n wild fast dry gray's anatomy,
and a striping brush.
