Simply one hell of a mani

Hi guys!

I recently finished the anime Black Butler and I'm deliberating on whether I want to start the manga or not, but all roads lead to nail polish so I had to do some Black Butler nails. I had the perfect polish to use for my base, Black Heart Beauty holo lv stick, it has a wicked looking skull bottle but somehow I spaced out and didn't take any pictures with it. But I took a couple in this post, so you can still appreciate the awesomness of this bottle.

If you're not in on the black butler loop, the design on my ring finger is Sebastion's demon contract mark. I used a striping brush for all the lines, the star in the middle didn't come out as I hoped, but overall I really like this mani! If you haven't seen it I highly recommend Black Butler, it's a bit dark but has some really hilarious moments!

Polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Black Heart Beauty holo lv stick,
N.Y.C French white tip,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
and a striping brush.

Orange you glad I didn't say apple?

Hi guys!

I have another blue monkey see monkey do mani for you today! These were inspired by this gorgeous mani, I don't think I did them all the justice they deserve, but I think they came out pretty cute!

I used a dotting tool for the spots on the oranges and a striping brush for all the other details.
My base color is Klean Color pastel teal, and I've worn this before no problem, but for some reason this time around I noticed it had a really odd smell to it. A sort of melted plastic smell, but I went swimming right after I did these so I didn't notice 'till I got home a few hours later. I did a bit of research and apparently a lot of Klean Color polishes have this problem, I have a couple others and they've been fine so far, but they're all shimmery polishes and not a crème like this one. I love the color but the smell really bugs me so sadly I think this is destined for the bin.

Polishes I used:

Color mates clear,
Klean Color pastel teal :(
Wet n wild wild shine sunny side up,
N.Y.C color in a new York minute Lexington yellow,
N.Y.C French white tip,
Color Mates nail art lime,
L.A girl disco brites light show,
a dotting tool,
and a striping brush.

Revlon whimsical swatches

Hi guys!

I've been eyeing this polish for quite a while but I somehow I managed to wait until I had a really good coupon, so I'm really glad I held off! This is Whimsical by Revlon, it's a super sheer mint green/blue jelly base with pastel blue, pink, and silver glitters and silver micro glitters. This is four or five coats, but I do pretty thin coats so it wasn't really all that thick on my nails. I had to fish around in the bottle to get as many glitters as I did, but part of reason of that is that with each additional coat the brush scooted around the glitters from previous coats.

I still had out my mint polish from the TPC challenge and I got to thinking how that would look layered, so I have two coats of that on my thumb and then two coats of whimsical over the top.
The glitters stand out a lot more when layered over something, and I love how it gave the mint polish a milky look. I was expecting this to take absolutely forever to dry since I used almost five coats, but it actually dried fairly quickly!

I still had this on when I went to the river to go swimming, and usually swimming totally trashes my nails, but these held up perfectly! I picked this up for 3.74 and the regular price is usually 4.99.

Polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Revlon whimsical,
and Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet.

Plumbobs and broomsticks

Hi guys!

Usually with these challenges I have to wrack my brains over and over and peruse the internet intensely and I'll magically think of a passable idea at the very last minute, paint the design, take pictures, and blog just in the nick of time. But for some reason with today's theme, video games, I had wayyy too many ideas to sort through!
I winded up adding a bunch of manis to my idea list (I'll probably save them 'till the next geek/nerd challenge). If you haven't noticed yet I picked The Sims Social as my manis inspiration. I used to play it non-stop until they took it down (which I'm still slightly mad about), so it was easy to think of things I wanted to use for this.

I have a social point on my pinkie, a plumbob on my ring, the EA logo on my middle, and a energy sign on my index. I used a detail brush for all the details on everything and then finished with a generous coat of top coat.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Lakme' color crush 03,
Essence colour & go little miss sunrise,
Lotus colour herbals copper gold,
Pure ice French kiss,
Pure ice free spirit,
N.Y.C color in a new York minute water street blue,
N.Y.C color in a new York minute Lexington yellow,
Wet n wild fastdry sage in the city,
and a detail brush.

Chunky french tips

Hi guys!

It's the last day of The Crumpet's Tri-Polish Challenge for July and I've saved the best for last!
I wanted to use all of my polishes so I slogged through my to do list (I've reached a ridiculous amount of manis I want to do) and found this cute color block design.

I started with two coats of my mint polish, then I used a thicker detail brush than usual to paint the blue stripe. It layered easily over the mint so I didn't have to go over the first layer again which made me happy! But that wasn't the case with my dark blue French stripe, I had to go over that at least three times. I'm not sure if these are French tips or not, maybe I could call them chunky French tips?

Here's the polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet,
Klean Color midnight queen,
Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint,
and a thick detail brush.

July TPC feathery nail art

Hi guys!

It's day three of the July TPC challenge and I wanted to try something totally new for today's mani. I think I've only used a fan brush for my nail art once before so I decided to try using it in a new way!
I started with a base coat of my mint green polish, then I lightly flicked the brush over 3/4's of the nail in a dark blue polish. Then I repeated slightly lower on the nail with the mint polish, and just kept repeating that 'till the tip of the nail.

I like how it sort of looks like feathers, I might try this in crème and brown to get it more feathery looking.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet,
Klean Color midnight queen,
and a fan brush.

Don't go breaking my heart ♥

Hi guys!

This mani is two challenges rolled into one! For today's MSMD I used this heart gradient tutorial by SimpleNailArtDesigns. For these nails you paint your entire nail in your base color and then let it dry. Then you cut little hearts out of tape, unfold them and put it on your nails. I probably should of cut the tape beforehand but I didn't think of that in time. The hardest part for me was cutting out small enough hearts, I had a boatload of rejects. I used masking tape instead of scotch because I thought it would be easier to peel apart, and for tape mani newbies like me it's easier to see on your nail too!

So the second challenge this mani is taking on is the July TPC! I used all three of my polishes plus two extras. While I was looking through my polish box for something I saw this dark blue crackle and thought it would be pretty over the mint and figured what the heck, so as a result of that I have a pretty accent nail now!
I used Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet, Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint, and Klean Color midnight queen and those are my three official TPC polishes!

Here's the other polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Jordana boy oh boy,
Sally Hansen crackle overcoat distressed denim,
and some masking tape.

Hi guys!

I totally spaced out about the Llama nails I <3 nerd challenge so sorry that it's a day late! Yesterday's theme was technology and I used this stamping plate for my mani because I think it looks a lot like springs and fan blades. And I decided to jump into the TCP challenge for july even though it's half way through, but I liked our color choices for this month, so there!

I'm only using two of my polishes for this challenge, the ones I picked are Sally Hansen X-treme wear mint sorbet, Klean Color midnight queen, and Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint which isn't shown here. The stamping plate I used is SH20.

Pirates and bad wolf

Hi guys!

It's been ages since I've found something at a thrift shop that made my day, I just haven't seemed to have had much luck lately. The day before yesterday I found this awesome side table in one of the thrift shops I visit regularly. It doesn't go with anything else in my room, and it is banged up a bit, but I thought it was adorable so I had to get it!

I love the dubloons on the top! I'm planning on getting some brown paint to touch up some of the scratches, but beside that it seems to be in great shape! I found this right after I went in the thrift shop and I didn't want to lug it around so I told my brother to watch it so I could look around a bit. When I came back he was sitting on it and it seemed to hold him no problem so it's pretty sturdy!

It has a shelf in the middle that fits all the random stuff I keep by my bed, and for the cherry on top it was only 3.50!

And because I can't do anything without something doctor who related or just geeky in general, I found this on a post outside my martial arts dojo! I actually first saw this weeks ago but I kept forgetting to bring my camera to take a pic.

Golden kisses

Hi guys!

Things have finally calmed down a bit so I can get back to posting Pink Wednesdays regularly, or at least that's my plan! Today's mani was inspired by these nails from Frippery Digits. I've had these on my to do list for ages, but with the challenges running I couldn't find the time to try them out until now!

I started by doing a gradient of three pink polishes and then let that dry. When I stamped the kisses in gold with BM02, my thumb was still a bit tacky so it got smooshed a bit, but after some more strategic smooshing and lots of top coat I got it back to almost perfect!

I think the gold kisses would also look pretty over a mint or maybe a really light honey yellow polish?

Here's the polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Essence colour & go modern romance,
Essence nude glam peaches and cream,
Wet n wild megalast candy-licious,
Nina ultra pro gladiator,
and BM02.

MSMD drip nail art

Hi guys!

For today's MSMD I picked a mani from The Nailasaurus.  I've always admired her drip nail art, my take isn't quite as perfect as the original but I do really love how it came out!
I started with my blue base polish and outlined and filled in the drips in a dark purple crème polish. Then I went over the top of the drips with a sparkly jelly polish with a striping brush.

I'm looking forward to getting back on track with Pink Wednesdays, the Llama nails time periods challenge was on Wednesdays so I haven't been able to do a pink mani in quite a while. So be expecting more pink around here!

Here's the polishes I used:

Color mates clear,
Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint,
Color Club by design,
Sinful Colors daddy's girl,
and a striping brush.

Cracking open a good book

Hi guys!

Today's theme in the Llama nails nerd challenge is literature. I thought that was a pretty vague realm of possibilities so instead of picking a specific book to base my nails on I did a mani inspired by the physical books themselves.

I painted book spines in different colors on all my nails, I started with striping three colors on each nail and outlining them in black. Then I used a striping brush to add details to the spines in gold and silver.

I briefly thought about adding some rhinestones for some extra zing but decided against it.
Almost all of the polishes I used were shimmery so this was a bit tricky to get clear pictures of.

You don't get as much shine from the individual polishes in these pictures but the details on the spines show up a much clearer.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Klean Color midnight queen,
Lakme' fast and fabulous 40" gold caramel,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
Color mates fuchsia flash,
Nina ultra pro gladiator,
Wet n wild wild shine metallica,
China Glaze def defying,
Lakme' truewear twilight mauve,
and a striping brush.

Great Scott!

Hi!

It's the very last day of the Llama nails time periods nail challenge, and today's theme is futuristic. I'm very happy with how I've done so far, and it was really fun to see what everyone else came up with for each theme! I went with a Back to the Future mani today, I really love those movies and thought they would make cute nail art and I was right!

I have a radiation sign on my index finger, Marty's puffy vest on my ring, and Doc's favorite saying on my thumb, and I used a striping brush for all the details on each nail.
I though about doing a hover board nail, but I decided the color would majorly clash with the other nails. Maybe I'll do another mani with hoverboards and inside out clothes?

Here's the polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Petites color fever vintage gray,
Klean Color boogie nights,
L.A girl disco brites light show,
N.Y.C French white tip,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
and a striping brush.

MSMD under the sea

Hi guys!

I'm very pleased with today's MSMD! I based this off a mani I saw on The Clockwise Nail Polish, you can see the original post here. I started by doing a gradient on all my nails with a light blue polish and a dark navy shimmery polish. I think I've finally gotten gradients down! I found the Nailasaurus's tutorial and it helped me a ton and a half.

When I first got my Wistonia plates I immediately wanted to use the mermaid image on W108,
but I had just cut my nails a bit shorter than usual so I had to wait a while until my nails grew out again. But now they're just barely long enough to use her and I love it! I used a black nail art polish for some touch ups on her tail flippers but besides that it stamped very easily.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color Mates clear,
Ulta dance teal dawn,
Wet n wild megalast I need a refresh-mint,
Konad special stamping polish black,
W108,
Konad M57,
SH11,
and Color Mates nail art black.

A book is a loaded gun

Hi!

Usually I have something to pick on in my manis, but for once I don't think I could've done this any better! Today's theme in the Llama nails nerd challenge is science fiction and if you haven't figured it out yet I picked Fahrenheit 451 as my manis inspiration.

I did my fire in a different way than I've seen elsewhere, I didn't want the typical hot rod flames so I layered red, orange, and yellow, and then I outlined some flames very lightly with black.

I freehanded the 451 with a striping brush and newspapered my middle and pinkie fingers.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color mates clear,
Petites color fever vintage gray,
Ulta let the flames begin,
N.Y.C color in a new York minute Lexington yellow,
Wet n wild fastdry ebony hates chris,
Klean Color boogie nights,
and a striping brush.

Red, White, and Blue Leopard mani

Hi!

Happy fourth of July! I wanted to do something a bit different than the usual fourth of July mani, and I haven't every seen a red, white, and blue leopard mani so that's what I did! I started with a base of white and used a striping brush for the red and blue. I added some blue glitter and a coat of matte top coat.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color mates clear,
N.Y.C French white tip,
Crayola pacific blue,
N.Y.C color in a new York minute water street blue,
N.Y.C matte me crazy,
and a striping brush.

Angry Beavers!

Hi!

It's the next to last day of the Llama nails time periods nail art challenge! Today's theme is 90's and I decided to do some nail art based on one of my favorite cartoons from the 90's, Angry Beavers!
I have Daggett on my ring finger and Norbert on my middle. Dag was actually way easier to paint than I thought he would be, but I'm not completely happy with how Norb came out. Trying to fit all that hair on my nail threw me for a bit of a loop.

I started with a gradient of red, yellow, and orange as my base and then I painted and filled out the silhouettes of norb and dag in brown and yellow. Then I used a striping brush to outline everything in black and add details. I used a dotting tool for both sets of eyes and for filling out Dag's teeth.

This challenge has helped me think of some pretty unique nail art ideas, although I have no idea what I'm going to do for the next theme, Futuristic.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color mates clear,
Essence colour & go little miss sunrise,
Lakme true wear twilight mauve,
Color mates nail art cocoa,
Sally Hansen no chip 10 day nail color surely ivory,
Wet n wild wild shine jezebel,
Petites color fever seashell,
Color mates winey the pooh,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,

L.A girl disco brites light show,
Ulta let the flames begin,

and a striping brush.

MSMD cherry blossoms

Hi!

I have a rather strange MSMD mani for you guys today! Instead of  copying a mani someone else has done as usual, I based my nails off this pretty design on a can of tea. This is a can of Arizona green tea with ginseng and I really love the cherry blossoms on the can so I immediately thought of  using them as a design for my nails on MSMD!

I was surprised to find out that I have a blue polish that matched the can so perfectly, I was thinking I'd have to mix a couple to get the right shade. I used a striping brush for the branches and a dotting tool for the flowers.

You can't really see it that well, but I highlighted parts of the branches with a gunmetal gray polish and it really added depth to the design.

I love the flowers on my pinkie the most! I think this would be really cute with white flowers with red centers, I'm not sure what base color I'd use.

Here's the polishes I used:

Color mates clear,
EN-VY cuckoo for you,
Wet n wild fast dry ebony hates chris,
Wet n wild megalast candy-licious,
a striping brush,
and a dotting tool.
