Estate sale finds

These are some of my more recent garage/estate/flea market sale finds.

I have a small collection of avon bottles, and this seahorse fits perfectly in it.
I'm not sure why I need a beat up doll torso, but I think it needs to live with me.

I got this Zeiss iron camera mostly for looks,
but I plan on using this one. Unhappily the film is 23.00 dollars for only eight pictures so it might be a while before I take any pictures.
And this is the detached bulb for the flash attactment of the Zeiss camera. I didn't know what it was when I bought it, I got it intending to hollow it out for a project. But when I was researching the camera I found out what it is, so I'm going to leave it intact for now.

International harvester nail art

Today I painted international harvester nails. My dad collects everything to do with IH so I thought I should try to do nails. I really like how they came out, they look exactly how I wanted them to which I didn't really expect to happen.

This is the keychain I used to paint them.

Here's the polishes I used:

L.A colors hardener/strengthener,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n wild wild shine jezebel,
Lotus herbals colour dew gold mist,
Fast dry top coat,
a detail brush,

Rue beaute nail deco

I was a strip mall in Lincoln city and I saw a shop I'd never seen called Rue21. I got these nail polishes for 2.50 and I've never seen this type before.
They have three different polishes layered in one bottle so you get a sort of marbled look. I got the only colors they had yellow, green, and blue, and pink, purple, and blue.

This is the polish all by itself, it dries matte and is mostly pink on the nails. I think after I've used it a couple times the colors will blend more. On the top of the lid of the bottle it says do not shake, but when you start out you only get mostly one color on your nails.

I felt they looked a bit plain for pink Wednesday so I stamped hearts over them.

Here's the polishes I used:

L.A colors strengthener/hardener,
Rue beaute nail deco pink purple blue,
Konad special stamping polish black,
and Shany stamping plate SH11.

BBQ nail art fail

Unfortunately I have a disaster to post today. When I saw the BBQ theme I was kind of puzzled by it, and couldn't think of anything. But a friend suggested to do the actual grill and I thought it was a great idea so I gave it a go.

I started out by sponging different shades of red and orange over each other, and at that stage of the mani it was actually kinda pretty. But then I went and added the black which was supposed to be the sides of the grill and that made it turn ugly.

It was a great idea hypothetically but in reality it crashed and burned. Hopefully the other BBQ manis are much prettier than mine.

Here's the polishes I used:
L.A colors strengthener/hardener,
Fantasy Makers creepy pumpkin,
Wet n wild wild shine jezebel,
Lotus herbals colour dew copper gold,
L.A girl disco brites light show,
Wet n wild wild shine metallica,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Fast dry top coat,
a striping brush,
a fan brush,
and a detail brush.

On the brighter side, yesterday I found a little frog in my yard.
Aren't his golden eyes gorgeous?

MSMD dream catcher nails

I've had these nails pinned on my pinterest board for a while now waiting for a monkey see monkey do monday. I'm not sure what put me off doing them but I really like how mine turned out.

The dream catcher part was pretty easy to do, but the feathers gave me a bit of trouble. I had to redo one nail three times before I got it right.

Here's the polishes I used:

L.A colors hardener/strengthener,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n wild wild shine tickled pink,
Lakme color crush 03,

a medium length striping brush,
and a dotting tool.

Scooby doo nail art

The latest summer challenge theme is "green and orange". I was worried about thinking of a design that wouldn't look ugly, since in my book orange and green don't look that great together. But I was trolling through pinterest and saw a picture of the mystery machine which is very green and orange!

I'm really happy with how they came out, I love how they look. I started with a base of green and painted the blue swirls over it. Then I added the orange flowers and outlined everything with black.

But I'm kind of disappointed with how my thumb turned out. I forgot to outline the blue before I did the lettering so I left that alone. I guess my letters are a bit better than usual, but I wish they had come out clearer. And on top of everything else my camera hates this nail.

Here's the polishes I used:

L.A colors hardener/strengthener,
Pure ice free spirit,
L.A colors color craze static electricity,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
L.A colors art deco orange,
Fast dry top coat,
and a medium length detail brush.

White and blue clouds

I've been at the beach! I have tons of pictures of the flora and fauna to show you but I wasn't able to squeeze them in this post. One of my 365 prompts while I was gone was to do something to do with clouds and I had brought all my polish so I painted these!

And I got my new nail art brushes recently, so this is my first time trying them out! I really love how the clouds look, they're much crisper than how my usual results turn out with my other brushes. I used my new medium length striping brush to outline the cloud shape and then I just filled it in.

Here's the polishes I used:
Fast dry top coat,
EN-VY cuckoo for you,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
and a medium length striping brush.

And here's my weekly wrap up:

I've been,
Reading: Pride and prejudice by Jane Austen,
Listening to: 50 ways to say goodbye by Train,
Wearing: My new vintage green sundress,
Buying: two new cute t's and some interesting new polishes,
Finding: all sorts of shells on the beach,
Liking: the nice weather,
Disliking:-----,
Eating: cherry turnovers and fillet o' fish,
Drinking: water,
Wanting: to try out these nails.

Ice cream sandwich tutorial

I made this a couple days ago while I was in my making jewelry out of sculpey craze.
I only used two colors of clay for this and it only took me around five minutes to make.

I started by making three flat rectangles of clay, one white and two dark brown.

I layered them dark white dark, and smoothed the sides so they would stick firmly to each other.

I used one of my dotting tools to make the indentations, but you could also use the head of a pin or even a pencil.

I baked this for half an hour at 230' degrees. Here's a tip: the clay will sometimes feel slightly squishy when you first take it out of the oven but it will feel harder after it has cooled.

Guest post from Northern nails

Hi to all of Alexandria's readers here at A Girl and her chicken named Betty. I wanted to do a mani that reflects Alexandria's style of nail art which is vibrant ,youthful and fun so I decided to do something from my youth! I am not known for being good at freehand but I thought I would give it a go and came up with this I hope you all like it :D

I present to you my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mani!

For this mani I used:
Base Colour: Kiko, 391.
For the bands:
Pinky: No7, Devils Delight.
Ring Finger: OPI, A Grape Fitti.
Middle Finger: OPI, A Roll in the Hague.
Pointer: Kiko,336
Thumb: Colour Club black striper, Collection 2000 ,white.
Wobbley Eyes!

First I applied two coats of Kiko 391 on all my nails , Kiko doesn't have names on their polish bottles but the website describes this as a Grass Green, I think it is much brighter than that. Then I started to paint the face masks on each of nails to reprsent each of the turtles!

Raphael wears a red mask
Donatello wears a purple mask
Michelangelo wears an orange mask
Leonardo wears a blue mask

Then I outlined them with colour club black striper, then I put a top coat on and placed two wobbly Eyes on each mask, I love how this turned out! For my thumbI tried to write the TMNT logo out with a dotting tool in black first then when it dried applied the white then to top it of I used Seche Vite to finish it all off! I really hope you enjoyed my mani as much as I enjoyed creating it and Thanks again to Alexandria for letting me Guest Post on her blog. By for now .

I just wanted to say thank you so much to Jo for writing up this wonderful guest post!
I really love the nails, the googly eyes make them so cute!

MSMD kiwi nail art

I've been seeing these nails all over the internet so I'm not sure who first did them. I used this video tutorial by cute polish, it helped a lot. The first time I did these they didn't come out that well and they were really bugging me so I re-did them using that video.

I noticed I've been leaning towards brighter colors lately, and this definately falls into that category.

Here's the polishes I used:

Fast dry top coat,
Pure ice free spirit,
EN-VY funny bunny,
L.A colors art deco white,
Wet n wild wild shine black creme,
Wet n wild wild shine french white creme,
a dotting tool,
and a detail brush.
