melted crayon on canvas

I had originally seen this idea on pinterest and thought it was pretty cool looking so I got some crayons from the dollar tree, glued them onto a canvas and tried to melt them with a hair dryer on our enclosed porch so I wouldn't fill the house with crayon fumes.
After 10 minutes they weren't even shiny so I went and got a different hair dryer to try. After another 10 minutes I got frustrated and tried to melt the crayons in paper cups in the microwave. They wouldn't melt at all in there so I tried the oven. Finally after half an hour they melted enough to pour on the canvas. So I go back to the porch and half-way out of the cup the crayons harden. I got very mad at it left everything on the porch and didn't look at it again for a couple weeks.
I got some canvases for Christmas and we had some crayola crayons so I gave it another go this morning. After 5 minutes with a hair dryer I had a beautiful piece of art! So apparently the brand of crayons do matter, and it wasn't me being silly.
Some of my crayons were a little loose so I used some glue but besides that it went off without a hitch. So if I ever do that again I'll definatley use crayola brand crayons.

Later today I was playing with the new nail plates I got for christmas and painted these.
It's very hard to see the design so I took of a picture of the plate too so you could understand what you're seeing better. I really like this image, I think it's a nautilus shell. I was curious to see if nautiluses are still around so I wikipediead them and apparently the cool looking ones like this one are extinct but there are still some species of them around today.
Here's the polishes I used:
Some clear base coat,
Orly star of bombay,
an unknown the color workshop polish,
Shany nail plate Sh04

christmas pickle nails

I found this idea on the daily nail. I only did the bumps in mine and used three different greens to paint it.
I stuck the pearls into my still wet base coat, and sponged my other two greens on with a foam eyeshadow applicator. I didn't start out as thinking this was a christmas-ey design but then I realized it could be a Christmas pickle!

swirly mint nail art

I found the link for this tutorial on a cup of jo . Instead of doing the white and red swirls individually I started with a base of white and layered the red swirls on top, and finished with some top coat. I really like how it turned out and love this red polish. I don't use it that often because its glitter but I might have to make an exception for it!

Sally Hansen crackle!

So I finally bought my first crackle! I held off on getting a bottle for a long time since they're sorta spendy. But I got a 50 cent off coupon so I went and bought this:

This is Sally Hansen crackle overcoat distressed denim over a coat of Pure Ice A-list, and a coat of top coat. I really like how it shattered and it was pretty easy to put on. I took pictures with and without flash so you can get a better feel for the color.

picture frame dry erase board

I saw this idea on pinterest and thought it was really cute. The only thing I changed is that I used some pretty fabric instead of scrapbook paper. I took the glass out of the frame and used it to trace the shape onto my fabric. I just put the fabric in the frame lose, but if you wanted to you could glue it to a piece of cardboard to give it more oomph.
Sadly I won't be doing any nails for a couple days because I'm letting my nails be bare for a while. But I just bought my first crackle so I might have to try that out instead!

feather tip nails

I did some lace nails a little while back and it gave me the idea to use feathers in the same way. I got some pretty looking feathers out of the yard and cut them up into nail sized pieces. I put top coat over them so they wouldn't fly away and some polish under to give them something to stick onto.
Here's the polishes I used:
