LA splash love crush mani

Originally I was going to do water marbling today but sadly the world seems to be against me. First all my polish sunk to the bottom of my cup and kept sticking to my skewer. Then the polish kept clumping into big gobs. Then I accidentally dumped my cup on the floor! So since something out there obviously doesn't want me to do water marbling today I just did this simple mani.
Here's the polishes I used:

Abstract leaf nail art

I found this mani on misch's beauty blog. I really like how it's subtle but still pretty. A lot of times when you try to be subtle with nail designs it turns out that you can't tell what it is, but it works well with this one.

Duct taped bag tutorial

First I covered the pages with duct tape.

Then I started taping them together.

Since two sides are shorter than the others I added a three inch strip to both of them.

Then I carefully taped the sides together and made sure all the tape was pressed down firmly.

I made a handle out of duct tape by taking two pieces and pressing them together. Then I put a piece on each side so there are no raw edges showing. I also put a strip of the tape around the rim of the bag to make it more sturdy. After all the taping I applied a little bit of modge podge to the edges of the outside of the bag. And finally I put some clear ( clear-ish) tape around the bottom edge of the bag.

And here's the bottom,

one of the sides,

the rim,

the other side,

And the inside of the bag.

Animalia is one of my favorite picture books by far and sadly one of our many copies had gotten so worn and torn that it was on the verge of falling apart. I had seen on jo's country junction how she used duct tape to reinforce her bag, and I used that for mine.

dandelion nails!

I first saw this design on mad manis a couple months ago and was planning on doing it soon but never got around to it. But I felt motivated this morning and painted this. I used a detail brush for the big dandelions, and used a dotting tool for the little floating bits. I tried to use the detail brush for the floating bits but I thought the lines were too thick, so I lightly dragged the dotting tool and got these nice thin lines.
Here's the polishes I used:

new scarf !

So I finally got my scarf knitted up, the ends woven in, and blocked. I found the pattern in One skein wonders designer knits. It's called easy shell lace. But as you can see I used two balls of yarn instead of one. I used a little heavier weight than the pattern suggested so mine is a bit wider. I also used size seven straights instead of sixes so that's probably part of it too. I really like how it turned out, and I'm planning on it being a Christmas present to someone.

eyeshadow test

I had seen on pinterest that you could mix your old eyeshadow with clear polish and get this sort of matte finish, and I have way more eyeshadow than I could ever possibly use so I really like this idea.
I took about half a teaspoon of the eyeshadow and mixed it with a tablespoon of clear nail polish. After I shook it really well it went on pretty easily. The only tricky thing about this is that you have to put it on quickly or it gets tacky. This is two coats of the polish and some top coat. I really like that it kept the shimmer that the eyeshadow had and stayed almost the exact same color.

So today I painted east of the sun and west of the moon inspired nails. On my thumb is a candlestick, on my index finger is the sun, on my middle finger is a golden apple, on my ring finger is a snowflake, and on my pinkie is the moon. My camera didn't really pick it up but, the sparkly one is supposed to be a snowflake. I've read several novels that retold this story like Ice by Sarah Beth Durst and I really love this story.
